In honor of the release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (the best movie ever)
The adventures of Bilbo Baggins are very similar to the adventures of us students going through college. We go to college to obtain a degree, and won't leave until we get it. But along the way we learn so much more that we had before expected.
We're very skeptical of the journey at first, afraid to go to college and leave the comfort and safety of the Shire.
But come time to leave, we couldn't be more excited and proud of our decision to embark on the journey.
The places (or particular frat house) you're told not to go due to danger, but you do anyway because you don't see the real danger in it...until you're inside for a while.
Just as you think you've escaped your miserable GPA, an awful grade shows back up, putting you in danger of an Orc attack once again.
Gandalf is like that one friend you have who will ALWAYS know what to say, when to say it, and will never fail to save you and all your friends when in a dangerous or sticky situation.
The Ring is the way to get around all difficult situations that tempts you when you have no clue what else to do. This could be in the form of cheating or misleading people. Do you use the ring, or do you refrain? Hopefully you do a better job than Bilbo in fighting the temptation to put on the ring, as it happens very frequently.
Gollum is that person who will never let go of the grudge they have on you. Ever.
And Legolas is the badass friend that you've always wanted. You just have to face the fact that you will always be envious of someone like Legolas.
You're glad that you went to college and wouldn't have it any other way, but there are some things that you really do miss about home.
And of course, finals week. The week that feels as long as the entire journey to take back the Lonely Mountain. So long and exhausting.
College and The Hobbit...practically the same, right?
