Growing up, "The Addams Family" was one of my favorite movies to watch during the Halloween season. Now that I'm in college, I can't help but see some parallels between being a student and an Addams family member. So, in honor of Halloween, here are 20 times this ghoulish family really got us and understood the deep, dark depths of our young, sleep deprived souls.

1. Making new friends at orientation.

2. Coming home after a long day of papers, lab reports, presentations or exams.

3. When a cute TA asks the class for a volunteer.

4. Complaining about having no free time.

5. Receiving care packages from home.

6. Leaving an exam you're sure you failed.

7. Gettin' down at parties.

8. Trying, but failing, to hit on someone at said parties.

9. When a professor is talking too fast for you to take notes.

10. When the couple of the friend group spends too much time away from everyone else.

11. Reminiscing about your younger self.

12. When your friend gives you a pep talk to ask your crush out.

13. When your Netflix series takes a heartbreaking twist.

14. When you and your friend's outfits are on point.

15. When you finally turn in a paper you've spent countless hours on.

16. When you're having a great hair day on campus.

17. When someone takes all the credit in your group project.

18. Trying to introduce your reluctant friends to your favorite TV shows.

19. Barraging your friends with questions after their first big job interviews.

20. Seeing the new incoming classes and being thankful you're no longer in their shoes.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
