10 Reasons Why College Kids Can't Wait To Go Home For The Holidays
The Edison Home; Fort Myers, FL

Don't lie, us college kids love going home for the holidays. Living on your own in college has its perks, but it can be oh so challenging at the same time. Coking for yourself gets old and never tastes like how your mom makes it, and being poor get's really old really fast. here's a list of 10 reasons why I look forward to traveling home every holiday season.

1. Free food.

Every kid thinks their mom's food is the best they have ever tasted...especially after trying to budget your money all semester and realizing all you can afford is ramen noodles and occasionally box Mac and cheese.

2. Your mom will do your laundry.

Nothings worse about living on your own than having to fold your own laundry. Lucky for me, my mom is always quick to help me do my laundry every time I come home.

3. Home-cooked meals.

God bless food I don't have to cook for myself. Mom's spaghetti just doesn't compare to what I attempt to make at school.

4. The time apart from home made you appreciate it just a little more.

Once you go away to college and you come home for your first break, you start to appreciate your little hometown for all it has to offer.

5. Your own bed.

I don't even have to explain this one.

6. Your hometown friends.

After I went to a different school than all of my friends it's nice to know we will all be home for the Holiday's and will get to reconnect like we were never apart.

7. Your hometown restaurants.

I miss those little resteraunts that serve my favorite foods when I'm away at school, whether it's my favorite sushi place or my favorite breakfast sandwich at First Watch, I'm always excited to get home to my favorite foods.

8. Your pets.

I miss my dog always. He's one of the best things about coming home from college.

9. The beach, or the snow, whichever your hometown permits.

The sunshine is calling my name every time i travel home to Southwest Florida back to my favorite beach. Whether it's the beach or the snow, college kids are always eager to spend time at home during the holidays.

10. Family time.

Most of all, it's nice to get to spend time with your loved one's during the Holiday season.

Sometime it takes going away to college to realize all the little things you appreictae about living at home. Whether it's the food, your dog, or your family, there's something each college kid gets excited about when they get to take a break from school and enjoy their hometown once again.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
