Every year millions and millions of students prepare to either start their college journey, go to their college campus, or start their preparation to graduate. But recently I saw an article for college students claiming the “20 brands college girls should have in their closet at least once.”

The article lists:

  1. Under Armor
  2. Vera Bradley bookbag
  3. Levi’s
  4. Victoria Secret
  5. Converse
  6. Lilly Pulitzer
  7. Adidas
  8. H&M
  9. American Eagle
  10. Vans
  11. Forever 21
  12. Urban Outfitters
  13. Nike
  14. Lularoe
  15. Lululemon
  16. Michael Korr
  17. Calvin Klein
  18. Coach
  19. Windsor
  20. Guess

My first thought was how are these things related to my college education? Why is there such a big “need” for these things that we as college girls just have to have it in our closet to attend college? Does having these items mean we are not doing our college experience right?

Well, newsflash: not every college student could afford these “needed brands.”

As many of the college girls have stated they are paying payments on their tuition or paying out of pocket for their full education. Or they started making payments on their loans to fund their college tuition. Are they suppose to stop funding their college education because you think that they need these unnecessary things for their college education?

How is a Michael Kors bag or Coach or Vera Bradley book bag going to help me pass my midterms or finals for my courses?

The answer to that is they won’t because they are not necessary. But to add insult to injury, most of these brands far as clothing is concerned, do not supply clothing to the curvy figure or extra meat people. They were designed for slim people or medium thick people only. Does that mean the women who can not fit into these clothes are not really college students or not classy?

The argument the writer made was you wear these to be classy or professional. But that made me scratch my head even more. How is my interviewer for a job, or Professor for a presentation going to know that I am wearing Victoria Secret to be classy? Am I supposed to flash them my professional lingerie in hopes I get a job or the right grade? I think not because that situation would end very badly. Not only would they view you as a sexual harassment case waiting to happen but if you keep flashing your “professional lingerie” your classy behavior you want to show off would be viewed as a sexual deviant.

Anything could be dressed up to be a professional attire without paying $56.00 for a pair of jeans and $400+ for a tote bag to use for “school work”. If you feel like YOU need them in your closet, that’s all fine and dandy. I mean, after all, it is your closet. But do not tell other college girls that THEY need to have expensive name brand items to be seen as classy when you do not know their financial situation. Not only that but your whole list is about materialistic things.

Class isn’t defined by the clothing on your back or the purse you decide to wear.

So cut college girls some slack. They don’t need what you have to be happy, classy, or professional. They can be classy in a dress from Burlington Coat Factory that cost $11.00 with a cute blazer for $5.00 then paying for a Windsor outfit and a Coach bag. They decide what goes in their closet, not you.

Signed,

Every college girl you offended with your materialistic ways.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
