1. When you run into “friends” from freshman orientation and forget their names...

“Sometimes I get so immersed in my own company, if I unexpectedly run into someone I know, it's a bit of a shock and takes me a while to adjust.” ― Kazuo, Ishiguro, “Never Let Me Go”

It is okay not to remember every name, and it is okay not to be friends with everyone. Besides, your true friends are the ones who will stay with you.

2. When you skip the salad and choose pizza (again)... Hello, freshman 15.

“I say it's spinach, and I say the hell with it.” ― E.B. White, “Charlotte’s Web”

The college diet looks good, that is, until you trade in your skinny jeans for sweatpants.

3. On your first day home for break...

“There is nothing like staying at home for real comfort.” ― Jane Austen, “Emma”

Your brain is fried, and you can't imagine doing anything.

4. When your roommate gets up for her early class on your day to sleep in...

“Every time you come in yelling that God damn 'Rise and Shine!' 'Rise and Shine!' I say to myself, "How lucky dead people are!” ― Tennessee Williams, “The Glass Menagerie”

You blame your irritability on not getting enough sleep or coffee.

5. The moment you make your first friend...

“Friendship is born at that moment when one man says to another: "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself..."” ― C. S. Lewis, “The Four Loves”

Common interests often begin friendships. More importantly, you want a friend who understands you.

6. When all your friends are busy on a Friday night...

“She refused to be bored chiefly because she wasn’t boring” ― Zelda Fitzgerald, “The Collected Writing”

College life is a busy life, and sometimes your friends won’t be available. Don’t accept being bored. Go for a walk, watch the sunset, meet someone new, or watch Netflix.

7. When you are single and realize everyone else is in a relationship...

“There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired.” ― F. Scott Fitzgerald, “The Great Gatsby”

You are both busy with school and tired of drama. (At least, that's what you tell yourself.)

8. Two words: coffee and sleep

“If neurotic is wanting two mutually exclusive things at one and the same time, then I’m neurotic as hell.” ― Sylvia Plath, "The Bell Jar"

Really, it is not that simple. You know you need sleep, but you have a million things to finish. Coffee beckons.

9. The first time your friends get to know the real, crazy you...

“I'm always top banana in the shock department.” ― Truman Capote, “Breakfast at Tiffany's”

You may not show crazy side right away, but when you do, you will realize your friends are just as crazy as you.

10. When you take a break from finals and celebrate before summer break...

"Let’s just try to have a marvelous time this weekend. I mean not try to analyze everything to death for once, if possible." ― J.D. Salinger, “Franny and Zooey”

Clear your head and have fun. You only have so much time before you say goodbye and leave for the summer.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
