Moving away from home sucks. You miss your mom, your dad and sometimes your siblings. It's dropping everything you knew and heading to a vast, unknown world called "College." Everything is fine and dandy the first year or so but then sophomore year hits, you're out of the dorm and suddenly you're permitted to do what you've always wanted. The college crisis. Buying a dog.
The thing that sucks the most about moving away to college is leaving behind your pets. They were there when you left for school (and most of the time) when you came home from school. Whether it was a dog, cat or a fish, I guarantee that some part of you misses them like crazy.
Freedom is in your hands when you get your first set of keys to your home and one of the very first things that most college students get is a dog. Why wouldn't you? In a place where the only thing constant is a low bank account balance and class, college students need something that will always be there when they get home. Granted, a majority of people that buy dogs can hardly take care of themselves let alone another living thing but they're the best things ever.
The best thing about this crisis is that everyone does it. Boy, girl or both have the thought cross their minds once or twice. Sure, we have the Humane Society to go and to pet dogs, kittens and bunnies but we want something more. We want loyalty, something to cuddle with when we can't afford the utilities for the month and a living thing that listens but doesn't talk back.
I myself have not hit my crisis yet but I understand that in due time I will find myself turning down Old Louisville Road to go to the humane society and stare at a puppy that I've wanted for so long.
It's inevitable. It's the College Crisis.
