I’m sitting here on my bed trying to think of a topic to write about. I look to my right and there’s my bible on my nightstand, reminding me of why I was put on this earth. Religion is such a tough topic in college but no matter what anyone says, my love for Jesus Christ is unaltering. Yes, I am a Christian. Yes, I am a college student. You see, that’s the hard part being a Christian and being in college, the place where you have so much freedom that you don’t even know what to do with it. I could have come to college and completely dropped my religion, but I didn’t. I came to college with Christianity instilled in me since I was born. I am not perfect by any means. Let’s start there. I am a sinner. I sin every day. What’s hard is seeing all this temptation and trying to do the right thing, the Godly thing. In this world, sometimes it’s so easy to just drop your faith. But I think about all the amazing things in my life, and I think about how at one time, I prayed for those things. I look around and I see how blessed I truly am. I think about how badly I want to be like him and how I want others to look at me and just know that I believe. How can you get someone to believe when they see you living life the same way they are? You see, we're all alike, whether you believe in Jesus Christ or not. We all make mistakes; we all fall short of the glory of God. But it doesn’t make one of us better than the other. We need to stop basing our Godliness off of each other. We need to stop saying things like, oh, she party’s way more than me so I don’t have to go to church as much as her. That’s not how it works. Jesus isn’t a part time job; Jesus is all or nothing. Jesus is the only way. "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6
Non Christians our age have this thought that we judge those who don’t have the same beliefs, when in reality God says to love everyone. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother.” John 4:19-21
What we need to understand and non-Christians need to understand is that if we are not loving one another as God loved us, we are sinning. It is a sin to not love someone.
So as a college student Christian, take a look in the mirror everyday. Think about how you can become a better Christian, not anyone else. This relationship is solely between you and God. The more you lean on his understanding, the more others will see.
