Christmas Break For College Students: Expectations v. Reality

Oh, our beloved six week Christmas break has finally arrived! I don't know if it's just me, but every year I go into the break with all of these ideas that I am going to get back into a healthy eating, workout, skin and overall lifestyle routine. Here we are, two weeks in and all I've done is take four hours to get out of bed every morning. The expectation versus the reality of college students' Christmas break is soooo real. Here are just a few very relatable expectation v. reality examples I feel like we can all relate to:

Expectation: Saying you're going to read a few books v. Reality: Buying a new book and never getting past the first chapter

Expectation: Saying you're going to eat healthy v. Reality: Eating cereal in bed and making a grilled cheese for dinner

Expectation: Saying you're going to go to the gym in the morning v. Reality: Waking up and saying screw it and going back to bed until noon

Expectation: Telling yourself you're going to develop a great nightly skin care routine v. Reality: Buying all the products, doing it once, forgetting about it and doing it the night before the break is over

Expectation: Saying you're going to get lunch with that girl you used to be best friends with in high school v. Reality: Barely seeing your actual best friend

Expectation: Making plans to travel to see college friends v. Reality: Traveling to grandparents' house 10 minutes away for Christmas

Expectation: Make appointments for your hair, nails, dentist, and any other check-ups v. Reality: scrambling in the last week to get into the dentist and make a quick appointment to cover up your 3-month outgrowth

Then before we know it, we will be back in Oxford starting the spring semester realizing we have accomplished absolutely nothing. That's okay, there is always next break right?

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
