Dear College Best Friend
Angelica Criden

I would like to start off with a simple thank you. Thank you for many many things. When life started to twist and turn I am glad to say I found you along the path.

College is a new chapter in everyone’s life with brand new characters and that can be scary. If you’re like me, you’re away from all the friends you have had for years. Yet, when I met you best friend, it wasn’t so bad! You have become such an important person in my life this past year and half and I couldn’t be happier.

You motivate me in more ways than one. You keep me focused on work when my mind seems to be elsewhere and remind me the end goal we are striving so hard to achieve. You are a second conscious to me reiterating the importance of making good, healthy decisions. You have brushed me off and helped me up when I have fallen along the way. I hope you always help me up as I will always help you. Some situations have been a little awkward because we are still learning about each other but no matter what I know you have my back. From very early morning texts about if my outfit for the day is too crazy, or late night stressful texts about being ready to walk away from this all.

Best friends are important. Sometimes you need a shoulder to cry on when you have had a bad day. When you have been in the library for 8+ hours and you just cannot do it any more. Best friends like you are there to have crazy nights out with you and be there to laugh about it in the morning. Best friends like you suffer though 3 hour classes in a hot hot classroom understanding the plethora of other things you could be doing. Thank you for always encouraging me on my good days, bad days, and ugly days.

Thank you for setting an example for me as a sister would. Your drive and perseverance shows me it can be done and helps me do my best. You are always optimistic even when it is very hard. We motivate each other, we succeed together, and sometimes we don’t do so good the first time together, but that’s okay. We always do better the second time. Best friend, thank you for understanding the things not related to school, and the things I find hard to say.

Thank you for not always having to be told thank you for just “getting me”. Maybe God puts people in your life for a reason maybe its up to us but I am so blessed to have a friend like you. I have met you at such a changing time in my life I am so glad we are going though it together. Best friends are there for the trials and triumphs and a real best friend doesn’t just hangout for the wins but is the one helping you to your feet after the losses. The last thing I would like to thank you for is showing me once again how to become a best friend. After years of friendship with the same people you fall into a safety net and can forget how to extend yourself and open up. You have showed me how to be trusting and friendly. Showed me how to keep a smile on your face even when that’s hard. You have showed me how to push your problems aside to help someone else’s. You’re an a amazing person. There is 1 universe, 8 planets, 196 countries and I was privileged to meet you. Thank you, I cannot wait to see where life takes us, together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
