Marilyn Monroe is one of the most famous women who has ever lived. The original Hollywood star, socialite, and blonde. A true bad-ass, who didn’t give a damn about her reputation, and gave us a reason to believe in ourselves. Of all things that make Monroe an icon, what I appreciate most is her devotion to style, beauty and fashion. Although she is a controversial historical figure, no one can deny her beauty. After doing some research, I’ve put together the star’s top tips and tricks on exercise, beauty, health and makeup.

  1. “In Hollywood, a girl’s virtue is much less important than her hairdo.”

Monroe put a lot of time, attention, and (I’m sure) money into her hair. Religiously, the celebrity got it highlighted with bleach every three weeks to kept the shade of blonde, “pillowcase white.” Also, to maintain this look, Marilyn used Johnson’s Baby Powder as the original form of dry shampoo to skip washes. That’s some hardcore stuff, and not all of us can afford to go to the hair salon every month for a dye, but you gotta give the girl points for being so fabulous.
  2. Chanel No. 5.

No wonder this perfume is so famous! Marilyn Monroe not only took ice baths, but apparently put exactly five drops of Chanel No. 5 in them because she just couldn’t get enough. Not totally sure what the benefits of ice baths are, but smelling this perfume just became my next personal mission.
  3. SLEEP.

Marilyn Monroe is a symbol for a lot of things. For me, one of them is luxury. When it comes to sleep, sources say she slept 5 to 10 hours a night - and on Sundays, a little extra. What’s more luxurious than a good night’s sleep? A good night's sleep under a huge fluffy comforter on a big bed. This is one I can afford, and 100 percent hop on board with.
  4. Say no to tanning - in and out of the booths.

“... I like to feel blonde all over.” Said Marilyn in regards to staying pale. She believed a deep tan didn’t look more attractive and wasn’t healthy. To limit her skin’s exposure to the sun, she primed her makeup by lathering with heavy lotions such as Vaseline and White Nivea Creme. The star was ahead of her time on this one, as science has proven the aging and damaging effects caused by the sun. Try as I may, I still haven’t been able to give up my summer glow.
  5. Red is the color of confidence.

One of the Monroe’s most legendary features was her lips. How did she do it? With 5 different shades of lipstick! Her lips were always matte and contoured with darker shades on the outside. Simply inspiring!
  6. Don't be a gym rat.

Last but NOT least, the star believed in staying active and healthy while not obsessing over fitness. Marilyn started her days with a light morning workout routine and didn’t overdo it on purpose. Her philosophy was that it would be harder for her to commit to an overwhelming workout schedule making her ultimately less active. Finally, a real excuse to skip the gym!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
