1. Marty's

Marty’s in a cute home-towny bar that’s downtown. For $7.99 you get a steak, salad, and side. The drinks are also cheap, which is a huge bonus.

If you’re like me, and don’t love steak, their Reuben’s are the bessssst. Fried pickles, and fries there are on my fav’s list if you’re only looking for a study break snack.

2. Freddy's

This one probably isn’t your best option if you don’t have a car here, since it’s a 5 minute drive from north campus, but Freddy’s is the Mount Pleasant home-town version of an Applebee’s.

They have killer burgers, turkey Rueben’s (I’m sure you can tell by now what my favorite food are), and sandwiches.

Freddy’s servers are super quick, and always friendly. Their fried mushrooms & fried pickles are favorites in our apartment.

Bonus: Carryout is available.

3. Shin's

If you go to CMU and haven’t been to Shin’s we cant be friends. Shin’s is authentic Korean food, and they have a great sized menu’s. Located across from insomnia cookies, they’re definitely close to campus.

Carryout is available, but I totally recommend taking the time to go in. Their workers are super friendly, and if you’ve never tried Korean food before, they’ll help you decide on something you’ll love.

4. Dog Central

Dog Central has a hotdog for literally everyone. Don’t like hot dogs? They’ll give you a bun and toppings. Mac and cheese, BBQ, Chicago dogs, chili dogs, PB dogs? Yup, just go try it for yourself.

Pro Tip: $5 for a drink, whatever dog you want, and a heap of fries on Tuesdays.

Bonus: You can carryout their Tuesday night deal, and we do it pretty often in our apartment, since we all love it.

5. The Diner

If you’ve ever tried to eat at the IHOP here you know you’re battling casino go-ers, townies, and literally every freshman who has a car.

It gets better than IHOP my friends. Pancakes, Hash browns, Waffles, Eggs, Bacon.. and it taste’s better than what I can make (which isn’t saying much).

My favorite part about the Diner is they always treat you like you’re their most important customer. They’re always busy, but its totally worth the 5 minute wait to get a table. It’s 100 times better than fast-food breakfast, and you’ll be in and out in under an hour.

Plus, who doesn’t love a homemade tasting breakfast, right before finals?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
