One of my favorite things about the holidays is traditions. My family has a number of traditions for all holidays. Christmas is probably the holiday with the most traditions, and I would love to share a few.

1. We watch Christmas movies

We do this one a lot. We watch The Polar Express and about every Hallmark movie there is.

2. On Christmas Eve we open one gift

We receive gifts from both Santa and our parents. On Christmas Eve we are allowed to open one gift. It is always a pair of Christmas pjs that we wear that night.

3. Andies Candies

4. Peppermint sticks

5. Hot chocolate and the Christmas story

This is one of my favorites. On Christmas morning we would sit down with hot chocolate and listen to my dad tell the Christmas story. This reminded us of the true meaning of Christmas.

6. The Christmas pickle

A new tradition is the Christmas pickle. It is an ornament placed on the tree on Christmas day for the children to look for it. Is job is to get the children to appreciate the decorations on the tree and not just what is under the tree.

7. Looking at Christmas lights

There are so many beautiful Christmas lights. Every year we visited what we called the house that trash built. The owner was the owner of the trash company, but it was a beautiful house. Every year this house is decked out from the road to the house.

8. The Bethlehem walk

My family has gone through a few of these, but each year we make it to one. We take a walk through Bethlehem. It is beautiful, and fun to see how things could have been on the night of Jesus’ birth.

9. Ice skating

This is something I have recently started doing. There was an ice skating rink introduced to the area where I live a few years ago and I have been every year since.

10. A new family ornament

Each year a new ornament is added to our collection. We write the year to remind us when we got them. This year my family picked one that represented me.

11. Real Christmas trees

I love being able to continue these traditions and others. These help me to remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
