Christmas is right around the corner, and it seems as though this year, everyone just cannot wait. December is here at last! The sparkling lights are being hung, red and greens and golds are sending splashes of color onto almost every street, and the traditional songs and movies of Christmas are reappearing on the lists of radio and television channels.
I personally love Christmas, especially the atmosphere surrounding it. It's quite hard to find anyone who disagrees. People seem happier, faces light up whenever Santa is mentioned (no matter the age), and eyes twinkle at the ideas of the gifts they want to give to others. I mean, how sweet is that? Everyone is excited to give. Christmas grants us a little piece of a Utopian society for a short period.
However, I have a huge confession to make. Prepare yourself. While I may have a few people who have the same confession, I do not think that most of you will agree with me in the slightest way possible. Are you ready?
I do not care for Christmas music.
I know, I know. It's crazy, right? How can anyone in this world not like Christmas music? But I promise you, I'm no Real Life Christmas Grinch.
The reason behind my opinion on Christmas music might make it easier for you to cope with the idea. First and foremost, I'm the type of person that will begin to discard songs off of my daily playlist if I hear them too much. The radio station finds a new, hip song, and almost instantaneously, begins to play the song every 30 minutes. After hearing a song too much, it becomes repetitious and boring. And the next thing you know, I no longer have the same favorite song. I'm sure you can relate to that, right? For me, that's how Christmas music is. It seems as though the same group of songs get reused year after year after year, with only the voice of whoever is singing the song changing. I used to enjoy Christmas songs. I really have. But by now, it's become repetitive to me. I am not saying that there's only one group of Christmas songs out there. The list truly is endless. But the ones that I continue to hear on radio stations are ones that I am a little too familiar with at this point. Maybe I just haven't come across the perfect Christmas song.
To those who hold the same opinion as me: It's okay to feel like the oddball out. Every time I mention my opinion, I get wide-eyed stares, gaping mouths, and the occasional, "Are you serious?!" There has been about three times that I can remember someone agreeing with me. It stinks, I know. I wish that I could excitedly join in on all of the holiday singing. But, it's our opinion, and we are entitled to it. It's not the end of the world.
And to those who do enjoy Christmas music: By all means, sing away. Just don't be surprised if you find someone who doesn't want to join in. It's not that, as stated before, they are a Real Life Christmas Grinch. They just might not have heard the right songs. Be respectful of their opinion, and don't make them feel as if they have ruined Christmas entirely.
We are all passionate about something in our lives. And we all have negative, rare opinions about other things. No matter what Christmas music opinion you may run into, let's all keep this beautiful holiday Christmas spirit alive and, this year, have the best Christmas ever!
