Ghoulishly frightful and wildly enjoyable with lovely direction from Robert Zemeckis and a great performance(s) from Jim Carrey, this Christmas Carol has all the muster that Charles Dickens would be proud of.
We all know how the story goes in this timeless classic. There is an old, decrepit man named Ebenezer Scrooge who hates the Christmas season, that is until Scrooge is visited by his deceased partner of seven years, Jacob Marley and three more ghosts that show him what the Christmas spirit really is about.
Robert Zemeckis has really proved himself as a director with such films as "Cast Away", "Forrest Gump", and "The Polar Express", but he has really distinguished himself by taking on a timeless classic such as "A Christmas Carol" and nobody could have done it better than he. Zemeckis keeps to Dickens's source material while still adding something new to the mix.
Jim Carrey lends his vocals and motions as Scrooge and the other three ghosts. Carrey captures Scrooge so well and the visuals are so believable that it almost looks like live-action. It's really shocking to know that Carrey also plays the other ghosts because you only see Carrey as Scrooge. You'd think other people would be playing the ghosts, but it just showcases Carrey's abilities as an actor. I guess he decided who was not going to get type-cast as "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective", and the cast is just fantastic and as animated as the movie itself. Gary Oldman as Jacob Marley, Bob Crachit, and Tiny Tim also gives him a chance to showcase his abilities as an actor. Excellent work from all of you and keep it up.
