Christmas Break

As Told By "The Christmas Story"

Christmas Break

Two weeks, one week, finally! So close to no more tears. No more procrastinating, cleaning, and more importantly, more Netflix marathons. As we countdown the days until finals are over and we are free from college courses and cramming, we finally get to go home. We all love Christmas and the season, and if you don't, I will purposefully call you Scrooge or the Grinch, which is likely. It is the most wonderful time of the year, whether you love the food, family, music, decorations, etc., but there are some specific memories and events that come to mind when it comes to the season. Now although not all of them can be shown through a list, a few could be greatly appreciated through some pictures. I believe the only way to explain this is from the most classic, most played, and personally one of my favorite Christmas movies: "A Christmas Story."

Side bar: It has been a family tradition to watch "A Christmas Story" during the 24 hour marathon. My dad and I would sit there enjoying it and my mom hates this movie to the core, so you can imagine that it is quite comical.

1. SANTA- My favorite fat guy in red.

2. Getting ready to play in the snow- but mom doesn't want you to get cold so you basically put on the weight of another person in fluffy coats, gloves, hates scarves, five pairs of socks, etc.

3. Trying to focus on Winter-session courses, even though your brain is basically melted from the semester.

4. Received bad gifts from relatives, but putting on a good face when they ask you if you like it.

5. But your actual reaction that you can't show at the time is this:

6. Christmas morning when your parents got you that Kate Spade purse you've been begging for.

7. Seeing the first snowfall of Christmas season.

8. Getting home and forgetting you can't swear like a sailor like you do at school and getting that look from your parents.

9. When you are just DONE socializing with people.

But after all that, being home with your family has to be one of the best things about Christmas, and I wouldn't change a thing! Christmas is a time where everyone gets to come together and regain that childhood feeling again. The magical feeling where you do not have responsibilities and you can enjoy yourself again. Unless you are taking economics over winter break like me. But in general, enjoy the season and be thankful for your family, even if they ruin dinner and you have to go eat duck at an oriental restaurant.

"'Tis the season to be "jarry" Fa ra ra ra ra ra ra ra ra!"

Happy Holidays Y'all!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
