Mainstream Media Is Featuring Christians And The Christian Community Isn't Watching

I follow people that I admire on Instagram. It's my happy place. It's where I go when I need to see something beautiful. Negativity is not the reason I got into it. In the last week, I have seen two of the people I follow have negativity from the last place one would expect. The persecution is coming from the Christians.

Lauren Daigle, she is a wonderful performer. Her music is amazing. If you haven't heard her, now is the time to get familiar. One of her new songs "You Say" is an inspiration to those of us who don't feel our best. It reminds us that we are loved.

Lauren recently showed up on Ellen and Jimmy Fallon. The feedback she got from the Christian community was disheartening. People were so upset about her going on these shows they forgot the reason she was doing it. It was not for her glory, it was not to hang out or be besties with hosts. It was to get her music out there. Her Christian music. The music that many of us listen to on our Christian radio stations.

Chip and Joanna Gaines (so that makes it three people) are amazing people. I was a late follower to Fixer Upper, but once I started watching it stopped being about the houses and about the dynamic of Chip and Joanna. They are a blessing to watch and they inspire not just me but others in the way they live and raise their children.

Joanna posted that she was going on Jimmy Fallon and the feedback was negative. This is from people who say that they are so supportive of Chip and Joanna, but when it comes to going on Jimmy Fallon they remove their support. Chip was hilarious on the show in case you missed it.

The thing I drew from this is that as Christians we are directing our negativity in the wrong direction. I am so proud of Lauren Daigle for being willing to go on Ellen and Jimmy Fallon and sing her heart out. She did an amazing job on Ellen and on The Tonight Show.

Instead of boycotting these shows when positive role models are going on them, let's support them. What would happen if we didn't watch the Tonight Show unless people like Lauren Daigle and the Gaines are on? What kind of message could we send Ellen if we watch for positive singers like Lauren Daigle? I say let's send their ratings through the roof and support the message they are spreading.

I do not watch The Tonight Show or Ellen on a regular basis but I did watch Chip and Joanna Gaines. I didn't get a chance to see Lauren, but I would have watched if I could. The only way mainstream media is going to bring more people like Lauren Daigle and the Gaines on their shows are if we show them what we want. Instead of boycotting to boycott, let's support.

Lauren Daigle, Chip and Joanna, thank you. Thank you for not being afraid to get out in front of the world. Bless you, in all that you do.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
