I May Just Be A Regular Guy, But God Sure Spoke To The Poet In Me

This is intended to be a humorous poem, but I'll let you be the judge of that.

I May Just Be A Regular Guy, But God Sure Spoke To The Poet In Me

Once upon a time, on a very large college campus

A journalism student struggled to come up with story ideas.

His brain tried to think long and hard about what to write

But, to no avail, there were no ideas

I guess you could say this man was screwed

Up the crap creek without a paddle

This guy needed to think of something quick, for the deadline was quickly approaching

But his brain stayed quiet, not even a rattle.

This guy is about ready to blow his top

The editors keep pestering

This man has had enough

He is swollen with anger, the anger is festering

He wants to cuss out his teacher, everyone all around

The venom is about to come out of his mouth

But, all of a sudden

The Spirit came about

The man opened his mouth, ready to release

The anger deep inside him, ready to pop, pow!

But God stopped his tongue before he could form the words

The sound that came out of his mouth, the Chick-fil-a cow!

He wanted to cuss

Moo this and moo that

But The Holy Spirit

wasn't going to let him do that.

Finally, he just cried, because God convicted his heart

Of all the anger he had inside him

He just fell apart

Down to his knees, he fell about.

The man said "Lord, I had been such a fool"

"Why did I get mad?"

"Lord, you are so awesome!"

"Now, Lord, I feel bad."

God spoke to the man

God lifted up his face

God said "I love you, my child"

"Now rest in my redeeming grace!"

The man had so much joy

He couldn't control himself

The Lord's love was inside him

He was a jolly, bouncy Elf.

He grabbed the nearest person, tight in his hands

The man said "The Lord loves you, and I love you too"

The Lord is merciful, glorious, fantastic

The Word of God is good and true.

The person scoffed and said "That man is a nut"

"He is rambling on about preposterous things, he truly is insane."

But the Lord just watched as the love

Transformed the man, truly he's changed.

This is a story about a student who got right with God

Turned from his ways

He said "Lord, be with me always. Hold me and strengthen me"

"Let me love like You, Lord, all of my days."

You have a choice, God gives you free will

To choose the world or His redeeming grace

It is up to you to choose what's best,

"But as for me and my house, let me never leave God's place"

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

There have been many lessons learned.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
