Children's Cancer Organization Love Your Melon Comes To Quinnipiac

Love Your Melon is an organization that was founded by two University of St. Thomas students for an entrepreneurship class. The foundation was created on a simple concept: to put a hat on the head of every child in America who was battling cancer.

Since its foundation in 2012, Love Your Melon has taken two nationwide tours to spread its mission and to establish a group of Love Your Melon Ambassadors. These individuals are college students who take on the responsibility of spreading the organization's message within individual campuses and communities. More than 225 different schools are involved with Love Your Melon, the most recent being Quinnipiac. Junior Brianna Layton started Quinnipiac's campus crew last semester and is currently working towards having QU's crew established as an official crew, a title that comes with selling 100 items.

Layton doesn't do all of the work on her own, however. She serves as the Crew Captain for a group of 20 students, who meet biweekly to discuss ways to sell products. Beanies, caps, shirts, and other Love Your Melon gear are sold online, the sales of which go towards purchasing hats for children undergoing cancer treatment. If potential supporters (like you!) have any questions, Brianna Layton is always more than happy to answer them, along with any of the other Campus Crew members; feel free to send an email and you'll be sure to get a quick response!

While the products may be more expensive than your average beanie or clothing item, you are actually purchasing two: one for yourself and one for a childhood cancer patient. Beyond that, you are raising awareness; people as about the Love Your Melon logo on your shirt and you can teach them about the organization and how much it means to child cancer patients to have these hats hand delivered to them by strangers from an organization who genuinely care about them and are hoping everyday for their success! The children that Love Your Melon supports are our superheroes and our goal is to let them know that we are thinking about them and that they are not alone in the battle that they are fighting against their own supervillain: cancer.

For individuals that are interested in donating to Quinnipiac's Love Your Melon Crew, you can shop online at www.loveyourmelon.com. Make sure to select Quinnipiac University at checkout in order to support our crew!

In the meantime, keep reading to meet your Campus Crew!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
