Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by the year 2017.

Yeah, me too.

My new year’s resolution probably ended by January 2nd, and I’ve had some ups and downs. But, hey, who’s to say that the highs and lows aren’t what life is all about? That’s why even though rough times are sure to be ahead in 2018, I always look forward to the new year. Because even though it may not be a “new year, new me” sort of deal, I can always count on a “new year, new wardrobe.” And what better way to ring in the new year if not with a new outfit?

Ah, the annual reoccurrence of scrambling to find the perfect outfit: something with sex appeal, but still classy, something that makes you stand out, but not stick out like a sore thumb. Believe it or not, this hunt can be tiring and have no end in sight. This is usually because all of the “new year’s” clothing is basically metallic chrome (ew), or it looks like someone threw up sequins all over it (so itchy!).

This year, however, 2018 is taking the classy, sleek stance. Some looks you can see this year are dresses with sheer sections, making it a sexy-sleek outfit perfect for partying in. There are even dresses and shirts that are all sheer, and some with sparkly embroidery. You can pair items like these with bodysuit or bralettes underneath to achieve an edgy New Year’s look. Try creating your own look by shopping at stores like Tobi and NastyGal.

Another popular item for this festive occasion is the jumpsuit. Recently, the jumpsuit has gotten a total makeover. From something your mom probably used to wear in the early 90s, to a totally sleek and slender look. You can jump into your own jumper at stores like Top Shop, ASOS, Windsor, and even Forever21.

Another classic New Year’s look is the metallic, shimmery clothing. This one can be tricky to achieve because you don’t want to end up looking like a disco ball all night. Instead, try for a metallic item that has a dark undertone or anything that doesn’t become completely illuminated whenever some light shines on it. You can find subtle metallic incorporated into dresses at Lulu’s.

However, who’s to say you don’t want to shine like a diamond and get some extra attention? For this look, you can visit shops like Forever21 and Boohoo. And for a good in-between with great prices, try Missguided.

Last but not least, and one of my favorite: velvet dresses. I personally like this one the best just because you can look fantastic without compromising for comfort. I always feel like the velveteen rabbit in a sleek velvet gown. This look is also versatile—from T-shirt dresses to formal shirts to a long maxi dress, it's everything in clothing you've ever wanted and more! I shop these looks at NastyGal and Urban Outfitters, but you can find something velvet at just about any store.

So no matter what you're wearing, how you're wearing it, or who you're wearing it with, you'll be sure to turn heads and reel in a New Year's kiss! Stay safe, stay classy, and always stay a little bad-assy. Happy New Year!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
