The mass of horror movies are already beginning to dwindle from Netflix and movie channels, and all of our favorite spooky delights are being pulled from the shelves of stores and stored in garages until next October.
Satisfy your hunger for a good scare with the “Lore” podcast.
Podcasts are great, firstly. There is one for just about every interest and it a perfect way to make even the most menial tasks a pleasure. It’s a stretch, but you may even enjoy doing the dishes or deep-cleaning your bedroom with the company of a good podcast.
Before you dive into the endless choices, though, add “Lore” to your list.
“Lore” was created by author Aaron Mahnke in 2015 and received the iTunes “Best of 2015” Award, and rightly so.
It is a non-fiction horror compilation with 49 episodes, a new episode being added biweekly.
In October, though, Mahnke treats us with an episode each week, in honor of a horror lover’s favorite night, of course.
“Lore” satisfies history buffs, as well. Each episode analyzes folklore within historical events and dives into the darkest sides of human nature, possibly the scariest part of the content. Whether it is stories that we are familiar with or not, there is always something to learn in the 20-30 minutes of each episode.
His content is packed with information, but not in a way that is overwhelming. It’s as if he is taking you through the pages of a textbook, but the best one you have ever been assigned. It sounds like an impossible feat, but Mahnke has done just that.
Mahnke certainly has a way with words. His writing is educated without being above his listeners and he speaks steadily and clearly. His deliverance is perfect for listener enjoyment. He keeps you on the edge of your seat. It truly feels like a night around the fire at summer camp.
The soundtrack is fantastic, as well. It’s the perfect addition to the content. Music really can make or break media, and in this case it gives it the extra edge it deserves. The pauses are filled with these tunes, and allows the listener to absorb the previous information while enjoying a good beat.
Legend says that a television production of “Lore” is in progress, and avid listeners can’t be more excited. If just his spoken content is this enjoyable, imagine what a television adaptation could bring us.
So, do yourself a favor and head to iTunes to subscribe to this gem!
