Change is Not Now

Often times people want things now. They want food now, they want to sleep now, they want to go home now, and they also want social change now.

I want to start off by saying, yes there is the social change that I also want to see in this country and social change that we direly need. It is ridiculous how in subtle and blatant ways many minorities within our country are being discriminated against, but change doesn't happen now and it doesn't happen through criticizing.

This is what angers me with much of TS Elliot's works ( or any other famous writers I have studied ), he constantly criticizes the horrible things within our society, but he offers no solution to fix them. What does he expect, that every single person in the world will read his poems, go "hmmm I really need to fix myself" and automatically change? Or does he think that everyone in the world will sit in a circle and discuss his book and change their society? The world does not work like that.Same with internet comments, people will not read your tweet and just change the course of their thought process. Even some of the most historical changes happened over many years and arguably still happening right now.

This is not me saying that you should not be outspoken, or you should not be politically and socially active, it is just me hoping that you take a step back, and you deciding if arguing on twitter and Instagram against a stubborn commentator is worth your time. I know the urge to fire back is extreme but the odds are the other person is not willing to change.

Coming back to my point change does not happen now or overnight. It takes time, patience, and perseverance, and fighting in Instagram comments won't really help, especially when that time and focus can be used for larger scale things. This energy can be focused on finishing your homework, going to a great college, and affecting change at a higher level.

Change happens extremely slowly and almost painfully slowly. It is up to you how to take your energy and focus on creating change, and I promise it will happen because nothing is ever set in stone.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
