One of the most anxiety-provoking concepts for many people is change. This is understandable, as change is uncomfortable. As uncomfortable as it may be, it is also necessary to grow.
Have you ever been stuck in a rut that you just couldn’t seem to shake? Chances are, the best way to rid this rut is to change something. Of course, it isn’t that easy. It takes time and thought as to what it is you need to change to grow, but once you figure it out, it’s well worth it.
Sometimes it's a change of scenery you need. In my experience, removing myself from my hometown to live at my college’s campus has changed my mentality in so many ways that I would have never been able to gain if it wasn’t for the change. Moving away from everything that is familiar was certainly scary and hard to do, but I’m so glad I did.
I’ve gained a much stronger sense of independence and have formed much closer relationships with both, friends I have just met and see every day, and friends from home who I see less often now.
Sometimes we need to change our habits. We all have vices we would be better off without, but have a hard time letting that part of us go. Recognizing you could be better off without something is a good place to start to begin bettering yourself through change.
We all like our routine and that’s understandable; we like what we know. Change is scary, as we don’t know what could come out as a result. We see it as a risk. “What if’s” flood our minds and stop us from moving forward.
Most often, it’s when we are forced to endure change when we see its benefits. This change might have been unexpected and unwanted, but it leads us to reflect and compare ourselves to who we were before and now. This puts into perspective how much growth a change can give us.
I have watched many of my friends undergo changes in their lives and I have witnessed firsthand their growth through it all. They always come out of any change stronger and wiser than before.
This is what happens as we move forward.
If you feel stuck, don’t settle for where you are; you don’t want to remain there. You must push yourself to move forward, but in the end, it’s always worth it. We are constantly moving and bettering our lives; it’s a journey we all take.
