Challenging The Common Theory: Who Is Jon Snow?
dailykitharrington.tumblr.com

Yes hello, it’s me again writing about "Game of Thrones," but I beg of you to realize that I live for this time of year where I can talk about GoT 24/7 and not be judged for it. But, as opposed to my typical weekly recap, this time, I will be challenging a widely believed — yet unconfirmed — theory…who is Jon Snow? Other than a cutie with a luscious mane of black locks?

*Spoilers ahead*

So, as of right now in both the TV series and the book series, it is told that Snow is Ned Stark’s bastard from some wench he got with during the war with the Mad King when he aided Robert Baratheon in usurping the throne from the Targaryens. However, it is wildly theorized by avid GoT readers and watchers that Snow isn’t actually Ned Stark's kid at all — but that he’s half Targaryen and half Stark. This could mean that Snow's biological mother is Lyanna Stark, Ned Stark’s sister who is deceased, and whose last known point of existence was at the battle entitled The Tower of Joy, which will be shown at some point this season. Snow's biological father could hypothetically be Rhaegar Targaryen, the prince and son of the Mad King, as well as Daenerys’ older brother (not the one who got melted by Khal Drogo… that's the other one.) Which would technically make Snow Dany’s nephew, but whatever.

As totally badass as it would be to have Snow have the blood of the last two families in Westeros to exhibit magic, I’ve had another theory in mind for quite a while. Two episodes ago, Benjen Stark, Ned’s brother and a warrior of the Night’s Watch, showed up on horseback to save Bran Stark and Mira from the White Walker army. Benjen Stark was sporting a messed up face that he had apparently acquired since we last saw him eons ago in season one. Upon his re-arrival in GoT, I couldn’t help but notice how Benjen Stark bears a striking resemblance to young Jonny boy. They both share the same black curly hair, a trait that is not shared by Ned Stark, any other member of the Stark family nor the Targaryens, who are characterized by their silver hair. Also, if memory serves correctly, Benjen Stark had an especially close relationship with Snow in season one, closer than any of the other Stark children; so close in fact, that Snow decided to follow in Benjen Stark’s footsteps and join the Night’s Watch.

Now you may be thinking, if Snow was Benjen Stark’s son, why would Ned Stark need to hide him? Because silly, in the word of the Night’s Watch’s oath (yes I know it, shut up,) “I shall take no wife, I shall father no children.” If a man of the Night’s Watch breaks said oath he doesn’t make out so well, if you catch my drift.

Ned Stark could have claimed Snow as his own son in order to protect Benjen Stark from the wrath of the Lord Commander of The Watch. Granted, I have not yet developed a conceivable theory as to who Snow's mother could be should he actually be Benjen Stark’s son, but as I said, I’m just dreaming here.

Everyone is convinced Snow is a Targaryen because one, it would be awesome, and two, because in reference to the Targaryens, a three-headed dragon is always discussed. Now, this could apply to the fact that there are two more people with Targaryen blood, or it could be referring to Dany’s three massive friggin’ dragons. Or maybe it doesn’t mean anything at all and the producers are just messing with our heads. It’s all up in the air.

So there you have it, another potential avenue to further complicate the already miles-deep storylines of GoT. What do you think? Is Snow a dragon-rider or a wolf? Are there three heads to every dragon, or does Daenerys Targaryen have all of those bases covered?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
