There is nothing wrong with admiring a celebrity, but some people take it too far. Celebrities are not gods, and they are not worthy of all of the praise people give them. Honestly, most celebrities are narcissistic jerks who feed off of the attention of the media. For example, we all know that Stacey Dash is a worn out actress, but somehow she continues to gain attention through her controversial statements on Fox News. If Stacey Dash is well hated, why is she still relevant? Well, we are making her famous and it is our fault. I know this may sound odd, but we have allowed celebrities to run our lives. The media is constantly writing stories about celebrities because they are relevant to normal people. Why are we so obsessed with famous people? Why do we care so much about their lives? After all, celebrities are not providing for us or paying our bills.
We are losing our identities because we are so caught up in the lives of others. For example, there were many people who were intrigued by Beyonce's latest album and people were questioning her motives for releasing the album. For some odd reason, people actually believed that Beyonce dropped an album to throw shots at her husband, Jay-Z. First of all, why do we care if Jay-Z is cheating on Beyonce or not? Second, Beyonce Knowles-Carter wants to make money so she feeds off of controversy. Becky with the good hair is not a real person at all, but fans were so quick to point fingers at random celebrities on social media.
Okay, Beyonce is an entertainer and we all need to put her in her place. To be honest, she is not worth defending on social media because she does not care about us. I am not trying to sound harsh, but we need to focus on our own lives and stop worrying about celebrities.
I cannot stand it when people praise celebrities for speaking against police brutality. There are thousands of activists who do not receive as much recognition as Beyonce or Kendrick Lamar. I do not have a problem with anyone who fights for an important cause, but celebrities are more in the limelight than regular activists. Frankly, the young people of my generation will prefer to listen to Beyonce or Kendrick rather than a local activist. We are always looking for a celebrity to give us wisdom. Believe it or not, we do not have a mind of our own.
