On April 6th, Balcalis Almanzar often referred to as Cardi B released her debut album. While it's been quite clear that Cardi is talented from her electric energy on social media and on Love & Hip Hop it's been quite refreshing to see Cardi receive the praise she so rightfully deserves.

Her debut album, Invasion of Privacy is a masterpiece that depicts what it is to be a woman in the 21st century. Listening from start to finish takes you on a joy ride alongside a wide range of emotions. Some of which include: insecurity, jealousy, confidence, and content.

I found it amazingly refreshing to see an artist be so unapologetically transparent. While I can't speak for all women because our experiences all differ, but from a personal account, jealousy is normal and rational feelings can arise in a relationship. Songs such as Thru Your Phone, perfectly articulate the fear women experience while in a relationship.

Additionally, anthems such as "I do", "Drip", "Bickenhead" and "She Bad" perfectly articulate the many trivial thoughts that flow through a woman's head when she is feeling herself. While it's impossible to feel 100% comfortable with oneself at every moment of every day, Cardi through her art articulated to women that these moments are valid and important.

Songs such as "Ring" and "Be Careful" perfectly articulate the questioning that can arise in a women's head over the security of her relationship and whether she even wants to make it work.

Each of these feelings is valid. What's even more valid is she manages to combine all of these different songs articulating a wide range of emotions into a singular album. For most women of color, especially African American women, there are cultural expectations to maintain composure at all time.

Additionally, there are a plethora of problematic tropes that characterize women as slaves to their emotions. These tropes trivialize women to the equivalence of children who are incapable of determining their own agency. Cardi B, maybe intentional or unintentional through her feel good anthems provides a medium where women can assert themselves and argue for their own autonomy of their bodies and emotions.

While music as a medium is often overlooked as a manner in which change can occur, I believe Cardi B is doing great work. Through her platform, she is allowing for women to realize they can be three dimensional and that through their own personal discovery of their own agency they can access the power of choice.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
