Plain frozen yogurt from the Forty Carrots Restaurant inside Bloomingdale's: that’s what I’m looking forward to when I go home. It’s real frozen yogurt, I’m telling you! Not Pinkberry’s “ice cream” like froyo, but real, creamy, cold yogurt. Toss in some strawberry and chocolate chip toppings, and you’re good to go.
I am also looking forward to a burrito bowl from Tomatillo (it’s much better than Chipotle), a crêpe du jambon et de la fromage (ham and cheese) from Meli-Melo and an açai bowl from Green and Tonic. I’ve got it all mapped out, as you can see. I would say I deserve all those food items since I haven’t been home since winter break. It will have been eight weeks living off of dining hall food, a feat I am proud to announce. I’ll admit, I’ve had some take-out calzones to get me through nights when the options at school just weren’t doing it for me, but that was only on occasion.
Don’t get me wrong; I miss my family, as well. But I talk to them every week -- yep, each member either gives or receives a phone call: Mom, Dad and brother. However, even a picture or memory of the food from home doesn’t count as the same. I’m ready to feast; don’t you think that for the one week of break to be home, that’s what should be done? No half-attempted grilled cheeses in the kitchen, some real food, finally!
Especially, now that it’s warm, walking into town won’t even be that bad just to reach the restaurants.Y
ou may be thinking, Wow this author must be really hungry right now, which is not true -- I'm just a food lover! Anyway, good luck when you’re home on break, stick to that “eating healthy” thing you said you were going to try. I, personally, am attempting to eliminate bread from my diet (it’s not going so well; hello, bagels), but when you’re home, I would say it’s a cheat week.
