After receiving Steven as a gift for Christmas, I felt really weird about just having a Styrofoam head lying around my house. Its presence was a bit eerie and unsettling, but I honestly didn't want to just get rid of it as my cousin had put a lot of time into it, even if it was meant to be a joke. So, I found Steven a nice Christmas themed bag and put him in it for the journey home.
Once we got home that night, there was no way in hell I was taking that bag to my room where I sleep, so I opted to let Steven chill in my craft room. He sits on the bottom shelf and every so often while working on a project, I'll look over and see the bag and remember what's inside. My "roomie" as my cousin calls him.
It's been a very interesting experience having that in the house, especially during these unprecedented times in which I'm home a lot more and in my craft room much more frequently. I've texted my cousin many times over the course of the last few months when I hadn't been able to see him and even when I saw him in person, he brought up similar conversations: "How's Steven?" "During quarantine, at least you've gotten to spend more time with Steven." My cousin is one of the weirdest people I know, but also one of the funniest. He has a great sense of humor and can make almost anyone laugh and this was his way of making me laugh. Steven has gone from this weird idea to a family inside joke. From his creation, we've had many laughs and funny conversations regarding him. Even though I personally find him a little creepy and weird, I think it'll be awhile before I can get rid of him. Too many good times have come from Steven, my new Styrofoam roomie.
