If there’s one thing we all have in common over Christmas break it is that we all eat A LOT. Being home means eating delicious home cooked meals, going out to beloved restaurants you missed dearly while away at college, and not really caring about how much food you are putting into your body on a daily basis. Personally, I have eaten enough food over the break that could feed a small village for the next 10 years.
So, since I have found myself in a food coma, I’ve started thinking about times I wish calories didn’t count. I’m sure I’m not the only person who has done this. Below are a few scenarios in which I believe we should not gain weight for the consumption of food. Enjoy.
1. The Holidays.
This is a given. No holiday ever ends with an empty belly. Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, etc. we should be able to eat as much as we want without any fear of fitting into our pants the next day.
2. Birthdays.
As college students, most of our unhealthy eating occurs after 2 a.m, usually after a night at the bar. Should we be penalized for craving a large pizza or 40 tacos after a night of drinking? No! That’s nonsense! We should be able to enjoy this greasy food without any caloric consequences. Besides, we had a long night. We deserve it!
4. When You're Studying
I always get the munchies when I am up until 3 a.m. and it’s not for an apple. It’s for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. The only thing that makes studying more bearable is a nice study snack. But, our goal is to gain A’s, not 40 pounds. We should be given a free pass when the unhealthy eating is occurring near a textbook. It’s only right.
5. When You Fail/Ace a Test
This one is simple. If you fail a test, drown your sorrows in pizza. If you ace a test, celebrate with a pizza. For having to go through the torture that is test taking, we should be able to eat as much of whatever we want. I think that’s in the school handbook. “Once exiting testing center, head to local pizza place.” It’s there, look it up.
