12 Times In College The Only Reasonable Option Is To Call Your Mom

Once, maybe even twice a day. Even at 18, I still need my mom.

I may not be the typical college student, but I really do call my mom at least once a day on average. Sometimes they're happy reasons, sometimes sad and sometimes downright dumb. Still, she's my mom, and I need her always.

1. Whenever I meet a new boy.

"Mom, he's really cute, and he asked me on a date."

2. Whenever I get back with some boy that hurt me already.

"Okay, don't get mad, but I forgave him. Please talk me out of it."

3. When I get out of a really rough exam.

"I think this one was it. My last exam. Mom, I need to drop out. It's actually happening this time."

4. When I'm sick.

"Mommy my head hurts and I'm sore everywhere but I have to go to this class. What medicine should I take?"

5. When I get a test back that I got a good grade on.

"Okay Mom, I know I said I failed that exam, but turns out I got the highest score. I guess I don't really need to drop out of school. Yet."

6. When I want to talk to my sister.

Bobbie Hall

"Yes, I know I could've called her phone, but she never answers my calls and is always with you anyway. This way you can't lie that she's right there and therefore she cannot ignore me."

7. When another boy breaks my heart.

"I don't know, I guess I'm still a stupid little baby that never sees this coming. What's wrong with me Mom?"

8. When I want to surprise my family or friends.

Bobbie Hall

"I would love to surprise you with coming home someday, Mom, but you're the only one organized enough for me to make plans with so that everyone is there."

9. When I finally start dating a good guy.

"Mom, I really want you to meet him. He's nice, and smart, and I don't know, I just really really like him."

10. When something reminded me of home.

Bobbie Hall

"Why am I calling this time? Oh I just saw a cat, which reminded me of home, and figured I'd call to see what's up."

11. When I run out of money.

"Moommmm! How are you? I bet you look lovely today. So the thing is..."

12. When I just really miss my mom.

Bobbie Hall

"Mom, I know I said I wasn't coming home for another month, but I miss you. I'll be home Friday."

Show your mom some love today and give her a call. No matter the reason, she'll really appreciate it.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
