It was Sunday morning after church and my group decided we'd like to surprise our friend, Alyssa, for her birthday with a trip to a cute cafe. A long line wrapped around the original location we hoped to visit, so we explored other options on Yelp and stumbled upon Cafe Bruxie in Brea. We later discovered the menu mainly featured savory and sweet waffle sandwiches with a couple other waffle style options like waffle cut fries with chicken tenders and salads served with a waffle crisp. The cafe's simple menu offers enough options to satisfy various tastes, a perfect match for my indecisive mind.
We were torn between savory and sweet after glancing at the menu, so our group decided we would individually order savory dishes and purchase two dessert waffles to share. My stomach didn't craving a large amount of food at the moment, so I split a California Pesto Chicken waffle sandwich with my friend. I fell in love at first bite. Waffles are my second favorite breakfast treat next to pancakes, so I am very picky about texture and overall taste. Bruxie's waffles were soft and doughy, but not mushy, and passed my high standards with flying colors.
After tasting my savory dish, my inner waffle lover became excited to divulge in the creme brulee and banana Nutella sweet waffles we ordered. My friends grabbed a cup of bold, fair trade coffee to accompany their entrees. My barista self skeptically sampled the hot beverage, but the coffee lived up to my high standards for strong drip roasts. Bruxie offers other espresso beverages and noncaffeinated drinks like chai lattes in addition to their standard cup of coffee.
I'm additionally picky about banana Nutella creations because I often eat this fruit and nutty spread duo for breakfast on bagels, pancakes, or crepes. Once again, Bruxie melted my heart after tasting the hazelnut fruity goodness and I longed for more after finishing the last morsel.
It was too early in the day for dessert, but I will definitely sample one of the many shakes and floats the cafe offers, such as the chocolate covered banana shake or the black cow float the next time I return.
Not only did the food taste great, but the employees were very courteous and always checked up on us, asking us how our food tasted and offering to help us in any way they could. The cafe's interior with barstools, high tables, and red walls was also very cute — there were even little hooks underneath the table to hang purses, much to my pleasure since my white-and-black music bag often collects dirt.
The weekdays are a better choice to scout the restaurant since it offers a half sandwich and side combo for an affordable price. However, I highly recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a cute brunch restaurant. I will definitely venture to this pleasant eatery the next time I crave brunch foods.
