If someone asked me what I would want to do for the rest of my life, and it could be absolutely anything, I would tell them this: I want to attend every music festival and every concert that I had interest in.
Looking back on the past few years, I cannot tell you how many concerts I've been to. I couldn't tell you how much money I've spent on them, either, but I do know that I could have probably paid for a semester of school at this rate. With that being said, yes, I am constantly broke and having to skip dinner dates with my friends to reheat my leftovers from the night before, but I am also attending a music festival across the country with 3 of my closest friends, so whose the real winner here? That's right: me.
I am usually one of those people that always has buyers remorse. Whether it's expensive makeup from Mac, a delicious Sam Fox dinner with my girls, or a shirt that I know will just sit in my closet for the next six months, I always regret spending money. But when it comes to buying a ticket to see any type of live music being performed, I usually don't think twice about it. And I never regret the purchase of concert tickets. Ever. What I did regret, however, was the few (very few) times that I decided not to go to a concert or music fest.
With it being festival season and all, you can only begin to imagine what my bank account looks like right now. I'll just tell you: I'm stuck eating ramen noodles for dinner for the next two weeks until I get paid again. And even when next Friday comes around, I will still be eating ramen noodles for dinner because let's face it, I'll probably buy more concert tickets. But honestly, there isn't anything else in this world that I would want to spend money on. Especially at this point in my life.
And here's why:
Going to a concert/music festival will never get boring. Each concert brings a different crowd of people. Each festival gives off a different vibe. When you're standing in the crowd, whether you're right up front being pushed into the gate, or standing in the far back just taking it all in, there is no better feeling than seeing your favorite band or DJ completely kill their set. I cannot emphasize just how real PCD (post concert depression) is. But I also can't emphasize enough how amazing it is to feel so in the moment at each concert and festival you attend.
What's even more awesome than seeing your favorite songs performed live? THE PEOPLE. The people you will meet and encounter at these concerts/festivals will never ever bore you or let you down. Trust me when I say this: some of the nicest people I have ever met in my entire life, I have met at music festivals. Everyone is just so happy and so loving and full of life, and what can be better than that?! I will admit, though, that some of the people you encounter at concerts won't always be the nicest, but those people are there for all the wrong reasons. You cannot get mad at somebody for being tall and standing in the front row, you just can't. But hey, to each their own, right?
I will say this again: the feeling you get when you are at a concert or a music festival, and you're with all your friends, smiling, laughing, dancing- having the time of your frickin' life- is a feeling you can't get anywhere else. And I firmly believe you shouldn't want to get that feeling from anywhere else.
We are young. We want to have fun. And I'm sorry, mom, but I won't stop buying concert tickets anytime soon. Which also means I won't be moving out anytime soon. Whoops!
If you've reached the end of this and you're still sitting here instead of looking up the next concert/festival near you, GET OFF YOUR BUTT AND GO. JUST GO. And thank me later.
