Amidst the chill drudgery of winter, avoid the proverbial doldrums by immersing yourself in a little bit of pop culture, be it a new film, television drama, or novel.
If you do happen to find yourself bored this winter, look no further than "The X-Files." This reboot of the classic Sci-Fi show, which premiered Jan. 3, features David Duchovny as an investigator obsessed with the supernatural: i.e. aliens. Suspense, sleepless nights, and though-provoking scenarios await.
On Jan. 12, Camila Cabello, former Fifth Harmony girl, will release her debut solo album, entitled “Camila.” For danceable beats and catchy lyrics, you surely won't be able to surpass “Camila.”
For those of you more inclined to curl up with a good book than your Netflix account, try Olivia Gatwood’s "New American Best Friend" on for size. She is a groundbreaking, feminist, spoken-word poet and her latest installment will leave you speechless and itching for more. Though it technically was published last year, I’m giving it a pass… it’s that good.
For any space geeks among you, I present the two most exciting astronomical events that will take place over the course of the next 12 months.
- On Aug. 12 and 13, look for the easily observable Perseids Meteor Shower. You can view Perseids from a dark location in the early morning, when meteors will rain down from the sky.
- On Dec. 13 and 14, you can catch the Geminids Meteor Shower, which produces up to 120 multicolored meteors per hour at its peak. Stay up late enough, and you might be able to take in the morning show.
Finally, and perhaps most importantly... the long-awaited (by me, at least) sequel to "The Incredibles" will be released on June 15, 2018. The first film set the stage perfectly, and I, for one, can't wait to see how this powerful family will face the challenges presented by the “Underminer.”
Side note: If you didn't fantasize about having Dash’s super speed, wearing one of Edna Mode’s specially-made suits, or creating forcefields like Violet, did you even have a childhood?
