You behaved yourself this weekend, and decided to stay in to study for your exams in the coming week (Wait…really?). Look at you! Getting things done.
Well, it’s 11am on a Sunday. You just woke up after studying all day yesterday, and you need that late-morning brunch before you hit the books again. Tired of your plain old oatmeal? McDonald’s may serve all day breakfast now, but you’re kind of over that too.
These six local eats are sure to have you feeling satisfied, and at an affordable cost.
1. Berlin Bistro
Located just off E 4th Street, Berlin’s surely has a more casual, hipster vibe. Try their Nova Scotia Benedict, and savor a decorated soy latte. And if you’re a music-lover, mosey on over to Fingerprints Music just next door to browse through their wide selection of vintage CDs and vinyls.
2. Portfolio Coffeehouse
Bored of the campus library? Take the study party over to Portfolio Coffeehouse, also on E 4th Street. Cozy up on a comfy leather chair, or bring your friends along and take over a table or two. Portfolio’s has a wide range of selections, including a chicken pesto panini, avocado wraps, and a croissant bacon sandwich. Need to satisfy your dessert craving? Try their Affogato, an Italian coffee-based dessert consisting of a scoop of your favorite gelato (generally chocolate or vanilla) topped with a shot (or two) of hot espresso. That’s sure to keep you wide-awake!
3. The Coffee Cup Café
As one of the most popular breakfast joints in all of Long Beach, The Coffee Cup Café never disappoints its customers. The servers here are warm and friendly, and the menu is overflowing with options. The plates are very reasonably priced, and the portions will leave you beyond satisfied. A thrifty college student’s dream, am I right? Their breakfast combo is just $5.95, and although I’ve only visited Coffee Cup once, I’ll for sure be back again! Check out all the hype on their yelp page: http://www.yelp.com/biz/the-coffee-cup-cafe-long-beach-3.
4. The Potholder Café
Who doesn’t love the idea of a pancake bigger than your head? You’re definitely going to want to share this one, friends. The Mac Daddy pancake is a whopping 18 inches, and comes with two eggs and two pieces of bacon or sausage. Potholder’s has a inviting atmosphere, and their menu howls variety; they even have a vegetarian/vegan menu for all you omnivores. Don’t forget to try the micheladas!
5. Schooner or Later
Looking for a slightly fancier start to your Sunday? Get in your best brunch attire for those insta-worthy pics, and hop on over to Marina Dr. to enjoy some breathtaking harbor views. Be sure to request patio seating, order a Spicy Bloody Mary or Bottomless Mimosa, and experience Long Beach’s charm all in one place.
6. On Broadway
If you’ve got a long day ahead of you and don't have time to lounge around, On Broadway is the perfect place for a take-out order before heading to campus. Choose from a selection of their toasty lemon pepper bagels, or croissant and egg sandwiches for under $5. All Starbucks-ed out? Grab a Thai iced coffee to assist you through your study sesh instead.
Whether it’s a Sunday afternoon or a random weekday morning before a big exam, be sure to try some if not all of these brunch joints. Rest assured, you’ll leave content and wanting to come again!
