Seeing BTS At Their Historic Citi Field Show Was The Best Decision I Ever Made

My hands were shaking as I confirmed the ticket purchase. Two tickets for 'BTS' at Citi Field. It took me weeks to actually process that I was going to see them, and even more to come to terms with it. I couldn't listen to their new music in the month before the concert and fancams were simply out of the question.

After over a year of watching every video, listening to every song, getting to know each member more than I ever thought I would, I was going to see them in person. Not only that, I was seeing them at their first U.S. stadium show. Which had sold out in 20 minutes. AND were the first Korean act to ever do so. You know, just legendary things.

We arrived in New York a day early, where I was luckily able to hit the Line Friends store and snag as much Koya merch as I could in preparation for the show. The next morning I was filled with anxiety. I couldn't grasp I was going to hear them sing in person, to see them dance their choreography I've seen countless times on YouTube.

We got ready and made our way to Citi Field a few hours early.

Although we actually got our seats in no time, the torture of waiting for the concert to start seemed to drag on forever, only building my anticipation and nerves to a new high. My sister and I talked, watched the videos on the two huge screens adjacent to the stage and absorbed the energy of the crowd.

Finally three hours after we arrived, the time came. Army Bomb in hand, I was ready.

The stage came alive as the boys stepped out to their latest title track, Idol. I literally could not stop screaming. After they finished, they all introduced themselves one by one to the crowd, and that is when I realized the gravity of what was happening. I was out a Bangtan Sonyeondan. I was about to see over 2 hours of the 7 most influential artists in my life. I was about to dance and sing along to the music that has become integral to my happiness along with almost 50,000 other people. This was real.

I still cannot describe my emotions even now, four days later. I am still processing how I felt that night. As for the performances, what can I say that hasn't been said countless times before? Not one voice was shaky, not one slip up in choreo. Everything that BTS does, they do well; and Citi Field was no exception.

I expected them to come through and throw my wig into the stratosphere and they did not disappoint. The sheer energy and emotion of the stadium was palpable; everyone was on their feet. I didn't even record anything because I was so enthralled by the performances.

While the performances were amazing, the love shared between the boys and us, their ARMYs is what stuck with me the most. The boys expressed their love and appreciation for the fans throughout the night, and we, of course, returned it. Namjoon's final words of the night, however, truly illustrate how much we mean to the boys and how much they mean to us.

BTS often gets put in a box, especially in western media, where they're seen just as pretty faces. Just as a fad. Just as cool choreography. A group whose worth only comes from their social media following. As hollow with no substance, when they are so much more.

Their platform has always been one of positivity and love. From the importance of friendships and support over romantic relationships in 'You Never Walk Alone', to the imperative need to love yourself first over anything else in the 'Love Yourself' series, their albums are never just music. They're a message.

Hearing Namjoon's words not only validated my thoughts and feelings, but they inspired me to keep working on being okay with who I am. I couldn't stop crying as he spoke, not only because of how much they meant to me but for Namjoon himself as he once again revealed his struggles with loving himself. And yet, in the next breath, he turned around and gave us his back to find strength on.

I am incredibly grateful I saw BTS, and on such a historic occasion. If the rest of the boys' final words (and Jimin's tears) are any indication, it is a night that both me, 50,000 ARMYs and BTS will never forget. I can only thank Namjoon, Seokjin, Yoongi, Hoesok, Jimin, Taehyung, and Jungkook for their constant dedication and the gift of their music to the world. All 7 of them have touched millions of hearts around the world, and I can only hope they will continue on their upward path of prosperity.

I have no doubt in my mind they'll be making history again very soon. It's just what they do.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
