11 BSU Things To Do Before Graduation

Here's a BSU bucket list you must complete before the end of your college years here at BSU.

11 BSU Things To Do Before Graduation
Bridgewater State University

As a sophomore, I’ve only been at Bridgewater State University for a year and some but I already have my BSU-themed bucket list ready and I’m already checking some things off! If you attend BSU, I encourage you to try to check these off as well. I think making a bucket list of fun goals is a great way of accomplishing things and making the best of your college experience!

11. Humans of BSU

I would love to be on the Humans of BSU! I think it's a cool thing to be able to look back on and think, that's where I was at that point in my life. I, like many people, am obsessed with the Instagram account Humans of New York. This is a BSU form of that which is great and gives you a sneak peak into another student's life.

10. Sled down Shea Durgin Hill

My freshman year I lived in Scott Hall so when the snow hit us, I was not up for trudging anywhere besides Tilly. Now that I live in Miles Hall, this goal is a bit more realistic. Shea Durgin Hill is such a hassle to walk up and every student curses it but it does come in handy once winter strikes. It becomes the perfect place for everyone to get together and play in the snow like we’re little kids again. I have not experienced this and I think it’s the essential winter activity.

9. Get on a banner

You know the banners on the lamp posts that have students being so BSU on them? Well I want, no, need, to be on one of those banners. I think everyone should strive to be so BSU that they plaster your face 10 feet up on a pole for everyone to see. I must accomplish this before graduation.

8. Win a duck hunt

Every spring, BSU puts on a massive duck hunt. For those who do not go here, the term duck hunt seems a bit gruesome, but for BSU students, we go crazy for it. If you find a rubber duck somewhere around campus, you can win amazing prizes! My roommate won Cards Against Humanity but another student won an iPad! So yeah, I would love to find a rubber ducky around campus.

7. Win BINGO

While we are on the topic of winning, let’s talk about BINGO. It’s a BSU idiosyncrasy that we love BINGO. Normally it is a game left for the old folk’s home, but here we are more than enthusiastic about it. My ultimate dream is to win one of the really nice (expensive) blankets at BINGO before I graduate. Then, I’ll put it in my future home when I’m an alumni and think about all the great times at BINGO. I feel like it’s impossible to win so I’m motivated to win.

6. Control music at ECC

Choosing the music at ECC seems kind of silly for a bucket list, but stick with me here. I did not know until this week that anyone can just go up and pick the music on the laptop they have towards the front. Sure, anyone can do it but I don’t quite yet have the confidence to go up and put a song on. If you think about it, you are playing music for the whole dining hall and that’s a lot of pressure. I’d go with Bohemian Rhapsody but then that’s seven minutes of hoping no one goes up and switched your song. But one day...one day.

5. Get an on-campus job

I have already accomplished this one! But I include it because I think it should be on everyone’s list. I am a tour guide and I love it! Having an on-campus job, as opposed to having an off-campus job, is great because you get involved and are able to meet fellow students! I also love my name tag that comes with it and the nifty BSU logo on it!

4. Go to the observatory

I feel like I, and everyone else, need to take advantage of the amazing observatory we have! Once we graduate, you’re not going to just have an incredible and high tech observatory next door. I never get around to going even though it is open once a week. By the end of my years here, I will make it a point to go there and observe some magical astronomical things in the sky!

3. Explore downtown

I have been to Bridgewater Bagel, and let me tell you, it is amazing. I love bagels and I made sure to check it out my second week of school here as a freshman. My goal is to try as many flavor bagels and cream cheeses as I can before I graduate. Along with Bridgewater Bagel, there’s lots of cool places I need to get around to checking out. I want to go to Better Bean Coffee, the consignment shop, and the Fro Yo place! I am also up for suggestions, so please don’t let me down fellow Bears.

2. Get a selfie with President Fred Clark

I see President Clark all over my facebook feed because he’s always out and about taking selfies! The real question is, is he the one into the front cam or is it the students? I think he is and I support it fully. If you read this, President Clark (which I doubt you will, you are a very important man) please let me know when we can set up a photo shoot!

1. Take a picture on the bear

Even if you do not have any interest in what I’ve gone on about so far, that's OK, but you have to do this one. I have taken a picture next to the bear, but not on top and it matters, OK. The classic BSU picture, in my humble opinion, is to get on the bear and pose your little heart out. You’ll be showing your grandkids this picture some day.

So go off and do all these fun things! But if you see me at BINGO please, let me win. I need it more than you. I love BSU and although I only listed 11 things, there is so much more I want to accomplish before I graduate in 2018 (hopefully!). Whether you are a freshman or a super senior, go out and make the best of your time here.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
