Dear Hallmark,
I thought I would write you this letter to emphasize what everyone has been thinking for a while. Your Christmas movie selection… is all the same, let me reiterate. Your Christmas movie selection… is all the same.
There are a lot of similarities between your films. Let us begin with the female characters, they usually begin as a strong woman who has a good job, or a bright future. Then they get sent to this tiny town that goes crazy for Christmas but she has never actually celebrated Christmas to this extent. She feels left out of the Christmas spirit until she has a ‘chance encounter’ with the male character of the film. Whether the male character is related to work or they just run into each other, this male character is ALWAYS the person in the Christmas spirit. Aren’t all guys? No… not usually. Also, why does Jake from one movie look like Michael from another? Oh yeah, it is the same actor. Man, I thought he looked familiar!
Anyways, let us continue. The issue within the movies are always related to the two characters not being able to be with each other, whether it be the girl has a boyfriend back home, or they want the relationship to be strictly work related. Typically the viewer will see a scene of the film where the girl is talking to her mom bad talking about the boyfriend back home. So why not just dump him? The two main characters decide (at first) to stay friends, and the male always invites the female to a christmas town tradition as a lowkey date, because that's what friends do, right? The Christmas town tradition always turns into a romantic event and typically ends in the boyfriend from back home coming and ruining everything, or the male trying to kiss the female then deciding it is a bad idea to do so.
That is typically the climax of the film. From that point on is what I like to call the depression era, both characters realize they miss seeing each other because hey, Christmas is all about seeing someone you just met instead of your family, right? ‘Fate’ will always bring these two characters back together in a happily ever after format. Such as “I broke up with David” *MAKEOUT SESH* or “Merry Christmas Jessica’ *SMOOCH*. The girl will then decide that even though she has a job WORTH KEEPING and a giant house back home, she wants to stay in this small town, and celebrate christmas with Christopher for the rest of her life. Do not get me wrong, but how long are these girl’s work trips? Usually a business trip is for a few days, at MAX a week. But you make it seem as if Rachel from Chicago is in Christmas land for MONTHS. Wasn’t Christmas supposed to be a few weeks ago? Why is the town still gleaming? I need answers!!
Do not get me wrong Hallmark, I generally enjoy your channel, unless you’re claiming there is a 2017 brand new Christmas movie and it is like all of your others. These movies are very addictive to watch and do keep me entertained for a while, but I just really think it is time to look into new scriptwriters and a few new actors. I hope for 2018’s Hallmark Christmas special Cindy can marry Steven with all the happiness in the world, but please… if i see the same actors again: you will not be receiving my view. I hope what I had to say enlightened you with what your fans think of your Holiday specials, and I hope you can make them just as amazing in the future.
Best Wishes,
A Frequent Viewer
Ps. Merry Christmas for the next month and a half!
