To My Brothers, From Your Sister In College

Because I have a brother, I'll always have a friend.

To My Brothers, From Your Sister In College
Andrea Bowers

To my dearest brothers,

First of all, I'd like to tell you both thank you for being the way you are. Thank you for loving me and putting up with me. Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for aggravating me. Thank you for the millions of questions that drive me crazy. I couldn't imagine either of you any other way.

I'm sorry that I can't make it to every game, awards ceremony, and class party. I really try to, but being at college doesn't always allow me to be there.

I want you both to know I miss you dearly. While I love being in college, I miss being in the room right beside yours. I miss being able to talk to you in person when something is going on.

I know we fuss and fight when I'm home, but it wouldn't be home if we didn't. I'm thankful for winter breaks, summer breaks and weekends we get to spend together. They mean a lot to me, whether you two know it or not.

I'm thankful that I can tell you anything. I'm thankful that you listen, no matter how uninteresting my problems seem to you. I'm thankful that you're there for me when no one else is. I'm thankful that I can trust you.

You two may be younger than me, but you've taught me a lot. You've taught me what it means to be a friend and a sister. You've taught me how to take care of someone, because we all know how much I love to be bossy. You've taught me how I should be treated by others. You've also taught me everything I know about football.

I've always treasured you two, even though I don't always act like it. I was so excited to have two brothers. It never bothered me that I ended up with brothers and no sisters. I've loved watching you two grow and learn. I love doing what I can to try to help you. I miss not being there so much while I'm at school.

Just because I'm not there with you doesn't mean I don't think about you. It doesn't mean I wouldn't do anything I could to help you. I love both of you very much and I'll always be here. If you ever need me, I'm only one phone call away.

Once again, thank you for being there. Thank you for supporting me and putting up with me. Thank you for listening. Thank you for being the way you two are. Most of all, thank you for loving me so much.

Love,

Your Sister in College

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
