9 Signs You're a Broke Travel Addict

Wanting to book around the world flights when you can't afford gas in your tank.

9 Signs You're a Broke Travel Addict
Abby Spelman

1. You've only been out of the country a handful of times. (maybe just once)

Yep, you got on that plane or boat or train and set off for the adventure of your life. Only to come home and realize you have spent all of your money getting there and there's no one who will hire you for a month before it's time to go back to school.

2. You have a pinterest board titled ~wanderlust~

Or something along those lines. And of all the pictures you pin here, I'm guessing you've been to one or two of those places. Don't worry, I know you're saving the rest for that year long honeymoon someday.

3. You're a social media nightmare on Thursdays.

But this trip was absolutely life changing, right? Looks like you'll be dedicating the next hundred couple #tbt Instagram posts to your amazing adventure. I'm sure no one will get sick of seeing how much fun you had several months ago.

4. You have a bizarre connection with the people you traveled with.

The strangers you lived with for a couple weeks or a full semester end up knowing you better than your best friends and family back home. When you’re in another country, you’re completely out of your comfort zone. There’s no familiarity to lean on, so you learn pretty quickly to lean on each other. These people will see you with no makeup, sweaty, dirty, overtired, and belligerently drunk (sometimes even all at once). When you see someone in that state, there isn’t anything too close for comfort. You’ll be picking at each other’s peeling sunburns in no time!

5. You own a GoPro but still don’t know what the buttons do.

If you can count the times you've attempted to use your GoPro on one hand, this is for you. I just handed mind over to the people who knew what they were doing and hoped for the best. Maybe you’ll get lucky and have a videographer in the group who makes an amazing video to a Coachella song at the end for you to all reminisce over.

6. The urge to spontaneously head to the airport and buy a one way ticket is something you experience weekly.

…Before you get in the car and realize you can’t afford to fill the tank to drive to the airport… And if you made it all the way there, you wouldn’t even know which place to choose.

7. What are priorities?

Planning isn't your thing. You just wanna see the world! You have the rest of your life to hold down a job and be boring. When you get the choice between filling up your passport or filling in that resume, it's not a hard decision for you.

8. When someone asks why you need to travel, you don't have a very good answer.

There really isn’t much of a reason in all honesty. You're still not sure exactly why you went on that first trip and began this travel addiction. There was just a feeling like you knew you had to be somewhere else in the world. And now you’re ready to go again. Like you tell yourself everyday, you'll be back on the road just as soon as you've saved up the money.

9. That one trip was all it took to get you hooked.

Whether you were volunteering in a third world country, studying abroad with a prestigious program, or just said screw it and packed a bag, something felt so right. Maybe it was the people you were traveling with who became lifelong friends and you all got tattoos together and inside jokes dominate your group chat. Maybe it was the connection you made with the locals, working hard side by side, going out dancing, reading together, playing soccer, or just going the beach. Maybe it was some sense of clarity and direction you found within yourself. Whatever it was, whatever the pull, let it pull you back in again. It was meant to happen.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
