Brock Turner Should Be Free

Just so he can live with himself.

Brock Turner Should Be Free

I can't even begin to explain how much my blood boils because of him. I, like everyone else, is appalled by the injustice of this situation. It's not enough to register as a sex offender or go to counseling. It will never be enough. Women will continue to be terrified that they are the next victim, while Turner will live his life and laugh. So, here's what I have to say about the pig that is Brock Turner:

Be free. You don't have to be in jail, you don't need to be behind bars, it's OK -- serve your probation and tell your neighbors what you did (if they don't already know). You're 21 now, so drink a beer or maybe two. Go to school and continue on with your life. Look at how beautiful the sky is and feel the warm sun on your skin. Take hot showers and eat full meals. Life is great.

But Mr. Turner, keep living this fantasy, because I promise you that will be all you have.

I hope that when you're laying in bed at night, you hear her screams and feel the two men pull you off of her. I hope her letter to you runs through your mind as you fight the fatigue. I hope alcohol will never be fun for you (if you can actually get it). That school you dreamt of going to will only be a thought, and your friends will move on. I hope you never play the victim card, because you did this to yourself. Do not dare blame this on your inabililty to hold your liquor .

Don't be surprised when people can't look you in the eyes or hold a conversation. You made national news, buddy, as the asshole who raped an innocent girl.

Most importantly, I hope you never find love. I'm a huge believer in love, and I think that everyone deserves to have it. I mean come on, it is the greatest thing you could possibly have in your life -- true love, unselfish love and love that will cross oceans -- but with that said...What woman would want to be with a man like you? Sorry, not a man, let me correct myself -- boy. You are a boy.

Everyone says that her life will never be the same, and they're right. It won't. You did that to her, and you'll live with that. She has friends, family and people who will stand by her side, always. Strangers who will stick up for her and pray for her. I can't begin to imagine the long road she has in front of her, but she has one thing you don't have: a support system. I don't know her, but I know she isn't alone.

I don't know if you will ever read this, Brock, but you're not welcome here or anywhere. You can say all day long that it wasn't your intention or blame everyone else besides yourself, but you still did it. Nothing can take away from the fact that you made a choice that night; A choice that has destroyed two lives. Keep living your life, and keep a smile on your face, but know that no matter how much time goes by...you will still be a rapist.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
