Breaking News: Women Have Breasts

Why is this considered news?

Lately, I have seen a very common trend on social media. I am not one that is very drawn to reading things like Cosmopolitan or Daily Mail, but as most Snapchat users know, they now have their own Snapchat stories that are updated every day.

So why has this caught my interest? Almost every single day the headline is something along the lines of "You won't believe what [Celebrity] was wearing" or "[Celebrity] was seen in a very revealing outfit in NYC." It grabs my attention mainly because it's hard for me to understand that paid journalists can write about a women's breasts everyday for a living. The "articles" often include minimal written work and are accompanied with 15 pictures of a female celebrity's nipples censored out of a picture.

So, friendly reminder, women have breasts. Isn't that crazy?

My roommates and I were watching Family Feud the other night and two contestants approached the buzzers in the middle of the stage. Steve Harvey asks, "Name a sexy celebrity a man might think should win an award for her big golden globes?" Her golden globes. Seriously? All of our jaws dropped.

It doesn't stop there. As I mentioned before, Cosmopolitan and Daily Mail always seem to grab my attention with their outrageous headlines. I understand that mentioning a Kardashian or Jenner is an easy way to gain an audience for an article. I constantly see articles about their family, regarding who got implants or who wore a sheer top. But my only concern is, why is this news?

For example:

Someone wrote an article solely about Beyoncé's cleavage. The entire article was pictures zoomed in on Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z, every picture was captioned in a way that it only dragged attention to Beyoncé's breasts. Why? She and her husband attending the U.S. Open to support a friend is not news, and a woman wearing whatever she wants to wear is not news either.

Here is another example of the sexualization of women's bodies in the media. Some genius wrote an entire article about Charlotte McKinney's breasts. And, on top of that, the picture was censored. I think everyone on the planet knows what's there. The thing is- why does it matter?

I'm sick of seeing things like this and I'm sure many others can agree. Wear a bra. Don't wear a bra. Wear a low-cut shirt. Wear a t-shirt. No matter what the situation is- women have breasts. And, more importantly, women can do whatever they want with their breasts.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
