Though my usual breakfast diet revolves around bagels, bruised bananas, and the occasional iced mocha, I still have a taste for that holy grail of all meals, brunch. I'm not sure if it's because hash browns seem to always be involved in brunching, or just that I like the idea of eating two meals in one, but brunch still holds a special place in my heart (and my stomach). Thus, without further ado I present my favorite brunch spots. Please make sure you order a side of crispy bacon for me!
1. Penelope
A tiny little restaurant that's only a brisk walk away from the Flatiron, what Penelope lacks in size it makes up in spades with delicious food and an adorable decor. While the entire space is decorated with long benches, whimsical mirrors, and huge windows, the food itself is even better looking: from fluffy pancakes to intricate breakfast sandwiches, the entire menu is Insta-worthy. I'd suggest ordering the donut holes and dipping glaze--they taste like an upgraded version of the state fair favorite, only without all the grease!
2. Sarabeth's
With its five locations and its iconic pastries, Sarabeth's is a classic brunch spot that perfect for when your family is visiting from out-of-town. While the sweet breakfast items are the most popularly ordered--the chocolate chip cookies are divine--the scrambled eggs served with a humongous popover is sure to please those looking for a savory accompaniment to a sugary brunch cocktail.
3. The Smith
With a number of locations--including one located right by Lincoln Center and Columbus Circle--The Smith is known throughout my friend group not for their pancakes or their pommes frites but for the very best, ooey-gooey mac n' cheese known to man. Complete with breadcrumbs and multiple kinds of cheese, make sure whoever you're brunching with knows you won't be sharing!
4. Bibble and Sip
Good luck getting a seat in this tiny pastry and coffee shop right near Central Park, as it's always packed when I visit. Most famous for their matcha cream puffs and delicious drinks. You might not be able to sit down in Bibble and Sip, but feel free to order a delicious coffee (or, per my suggestion, cocoa with a marshmallow) and a breakfast sandwich to eat standing at the bar. The cute atmosphere and busy shop makes for great people watching, matched only by the deliciousness of the food.
