First, I must warn you. Spoilers! If you aren't caught up with Game of Thrones, you should most certainly not read this article.
Okay, here goes.
Some friends and I were talking a couple of weeks ago, and we couldn't help but wonder a little bit about Bran Stark breaking our hearts by creating the character known as Hodor. For anyone that's forgotten what I'm talking about, recall that while Hodor was trying to hold the exit door from that big tree shut so that the White Walkers wouldn't kill Bran, Bran was inside of one of his little visions, watching a scene unfold that included young Hodor. When Bran seized control of Hodor's brain and yelled "hold the door," he didn't just take over Hodor, but past Hodor as well. This sudden change caused the younger Hodor to collapse to the ground as if he was having a stroke or seizure, and to yell only one thing. "Hold the door." As his brain died more and more, his words became less and less comprehensible. Ho the door. Ho de door. Hodor. Hodor. Hodor. And that's where he gets his name, as well as the only word that he can say. In other words, it was Bran Stark who created the man that we today know as Hodor.
So, if Bran can do that, what if Bran will eventually be responsible for other major events in the Game of Thrones world? For instance, consider Aerys Targaryen, the Mad King. All he said as he died was the same thing over and over again. "Burn them all." What if, once again, it has something to do with Bran? We've already seen that White Walkers have a weakness for fire. He could very well be in the middle of a vision when the army of the Night King sets upon a large city. Then, his reality of the Night King's conquest would parallel his vision of, say, Tywin Lannister sacking King's Landing against Aerys. At the time, Bran could try to shriek, "BURN THEM ALL!" referring to the Walkers, and accidentally possess Aerys to do the same thing. His mind will be lost and he will say, "burn them all," except that no one but Bran will understand, which is what results in Jaime Lannister killing Aerys Targaryen.
What if Bran is, in fact, the progenitor of many of the story's events? It could very well be that the Three Eyed Raven is just an old body possessed by Bran in order to lead him to a teacher. It's possible that Bran even had a hand in ensuring certain characters stayed alive while others met gruesome deaths. He could do all of it in order to face off against the Night King and the White Walkers. Otherwise, how else are those going to be defeated? We saw last season that the White Walkers are an army too powerful for regular men to deal with. We saw that even Jon Snow is powerless before them.
In order to beat the supernatural, they will need the supernatural.
Well, just an idea, anyway.
