Books Vs. Movies: Where Do You Stand?

They tell you a story, and sometimes you can just choose how to take in that story.

When you really think about it, there are two types of people in this world. Are you closer to being a bookworm or a standard movie buff? Everyone always prefers one over the other, to a certain extent. Are you more likely to have a collection of books or a collection of movies?

In my room, I have a collection of books. I know that in this stage of technology in our day to day lives, that not many of us have collections of movies lying around. Everything is too digital, and streaming available. Although, I do know of some people who have those collections.

You want to relax, and be somewhere else, it's either a book, or a movie. With a movie, you can just chill out, maybe have dinner with it. It's a great way to relax, no questions asked. With a book, you use your imagination to create this place for you! What better escape is there, than to actually see it in your minds eye. It's what you created, not just what someone else created. I think that's why when a movie gets made from a book, then there are parts that just don't seem right to you.

Now, don't get me wrong. I love to sit down, with popcorn, and watch a good movie. The biggest problem with watching movies nowadays, is that there is always so much going on via the inter web. We're always getting texts, notifications, and just have our noses glued to our phones. You can't really take in and enjoy a movie, if your mind is on the web.

There's different situations for each. Family movie night, a night at the theater, quiet time by the fire, or simply some me time. They tell you a story, and sometimes you can just choose how to take in that story. Either visually, or with more of your mind.

I can't say which one I would prefer over the other. I love them both. I just find myself watching a movie more often than not, because I'm lazy sometimes. I can say that I get much more deeper into a book, than I ever could with a movie. It literally takes you there, and you can live it thru the author's eyes, unless it's written in third person.

I think that's my favorite part. Everything in your life gets duller, and your mind goes to another place. For those of us, like me, who don't get to travel much, visualizing such places is a wonderful thing to do. It's almost like a dream world, in a way, that you can imagine, but you just can't fully feel it.

In a movie, I love seeing what the producers are able to come up with, especially when turning a book into a movie. They are never as good, to readers, because movies can never go into the full detail that a book does. Movies are true experiences to make you feel you are there, when done the right way, for the right story. An action movie in 3-D at the theater is an amazing experience.

So, that begs the question: Are you more of a bookworm or a movie buff? How do you see yourself?

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
