Some of you might not like to read a lot, but please hear me out. I really struggle with movies after I have read the book. This doesn't mean that I don't like the movie, but it seems to never compare to the book. I love the details a book can give you. I know it's not realistic to put all the details from the book into the movie, because then the movie would drag on for hours. Though, there are many times when I think there could be small details added to the movie to be a little more like the book. Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why there are movies that are nothing like the book. Wasn't the movie made to be based off the book? Adding or taking away a minor scene or character is understandable, but a major change just doesn't make sense to me. If I want to see a movie on the book I read, then I want them to be similar to each other.
I like reading the books because I can imagine the characters how I want them to be. I get a visual of them and have my own ideas of what they look like and how they act. I lose that personal touch when I see the movie. I get upset when the character in the movie doesn't resemble the image I have of the character in the book. I know that it's not going to be the same going into the movie, but I still have a certain image in my head on how the character should look.
I love to read and a good book is usually the reason I want to go see the movie that goes with it. I think I need to do something different because I always end up being disappointed by the movie. Should I watch the movie and then read the book? This way I already now what's going to happen, but the book will add more details that I didn't know about. It'll also give me a built in image of what scenes and characters look like. This will take away any disappointment that might be caused from my vision of the character being different from the movie.
Let's be honest. I will still probably go see a movie after reading the book, but I need to do something different. I want to enjoy the movie without constantly comparing the movie to the book. I need to go into the movie with an open mind. I have to remember that I have a different perspective than the producer. Therefore, while watching the movie I should look at the similarities images of the differences. If possible, I should try and watch the movie without thinking about the book. I need to view them as two separate things and if they go together that's great. If they don't go together, that's okay too. For some people, movies tend to be better than the books and for others, books are better than the movies. In order to enjoy them both, I think it's important that we don't constantly try and find the differences. Instead, we should take them movie and book for what they are. Chances are they are both really good, but we're stuck trying to differentiate between the two.
