Whether it is a library or bookstore, very few of us actually walk in with the intent to buy only one specific book in mind. Reading stirs our creativity and sparks our imagination unlike most other pastimes, and collecting books can easily become addictive. However, sometimes it might be hard to decide where to begin, especially when every aisle recommends a different category.

Even though all of us enjoy reading at least a couple different genres, considering our preferences based on our zodiac signs might suggest a step in the right direction.

1. Aries (March 21-April 19)

Being both a fire sign and the first sign of the zodiac, an Aries thrives on passion and adventure. While reading might not seem to offer this kind of excitement on the surface, this sign can easily get lost in the pleasures and domestic conflicts in a romance novel. Reading romance is like experiencing an adrenaline-thrilled roller coaster of fiction, and an Aries loves to live vicariously through the heated protagonists.

2. Taurus (April 20-May 20)

As one of the most practical and reserved signs in the zodiac, a Taurus prefers both a life and reading list of simpler pleasures. Well-grounded in both work and rest, this earth sign would most enjoy browsing through cookbooks, whether Cajun or vegetarian. A Taurus should not only savor discovering new and distinct recipes from different cultures, but he or she will also appreciate being able to share their culinary creations with friends and family.

3. Gemini (May 21-June 20)

Every Gemini loves learning, which is why this air sign should invest in informational books specifically. This broad genre can include everything from history to science for each Gemini’s particular curiosity. While Geminis collect almost all genres, more informational texts will likely be the most valuable and used treasures in their personal libraries. These lifelong learners simply cannot get enough of studying or researching whether at school or home.

4. Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Since this water sign is one of the most sensitive of the zodiac, a Cancer can find value in drama more than most other readers. Intuitive and emotional in every activity, this sign sympathizes with characters’ suffering and situations like they were originally meant to be read, especially in tragedies. Also, reading different theatrical works enables a Cancer to read about these exploits from the comforts of home.

5. Leo (July 23-August 22)

If nothing else, this fire sign loves to have a good time and can make the best of any situation. Because of a Leo’s positive attitude and general enjoyment of life, this sign would most appreciate reading satire or comics. Every Leo knows that the best cure for any ailment is a good laugh. A Leo could also share the jokes or fun of either humorous genre with other and less cheerful signs.

6. Virgo (August 23-September 22)

This earth sign combines practicality with sensitivity to uncover new truths in every text. Since a Virgo is also one of the most detail-oriented of the zodiac, this sign can appreciate and understand poetry more than most. Virgo finds new meaning in each syllable and looks at every poem from haiku to ode with childlike wonder. Analyzing the metaphors and details in every stanza also provides this sign more pleasure than simply reading the average novel.

7. Libra (September 23-October 22)

As one of the most social air signs, a Libra meets new people, cultures and characters when reading any book. However, classics connect this sign with other readers and writers from the past. Since most Libras also identify as social activists, they find value and inspiration from reading about the struggles and solutions from previous generations. These timeless classics offer new acquaintances and perspectives that a Libra, especially, will value.

8. Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Being one of the more passionate water signs, a Scorpio not only embraces his or her emotions but also demonstrates high awareness of others’ moods. Because of a Scorpio’s enjoyment of experiencing various emotions, this sign will likely savor all the fear, horror and suspense that comes from reading a mystery or thriller. Since a Scorpio also combines sensitivity with suspiciousness, he or she should enjoy following the protagonist’s frightening journey or escape.

9. Sagittarius (November 22-December 21)

This fire sign is a true extrovert, but every Sagittarius can find adventure in an exciting novel. Fantasy or science fiction, especially, opens this sign to new worlds and ideas. While a Sagittarius might prefer to travel around the world, reading either genre can offer an entire galaxy to explore. Being open-minded also allows this sign to easily accept different dimensions, species and cultures for the sake of fully immersing oneself into a thrilling and fictional experience.

10. Capricorn (December 22-January 19)

Like the other earth signs, a Capricorn demonstrates reliability and practicality in almost every situation. His or her independence also makes personalized books more appealing to this sign than others. Distinct how-to books, for instance, offer practical learning experience for any job or hobby a Capricorn might desire. This sign’s level of self-discipline also guarantees that a how-to book won’t go to waste after only a week, whether it teaches how to make bouquets or fix a car.

11. Aquarius (January 20-February 18)

As one of the most intellectual signs, an Aquarius reads to learn. However, this air sign usually prefers to narrow the subject to someone or something familiar, which is why biographical books are most promising. An Aquarius especially values discovering all sides of a situation, and biographical texts can offer some of the insight he or she might desire. Being able to localize the subjects also creates more of an impact on an Aquarius than other non-fiction works.

12. Pisces (February 19-March 20)

Being the last sign of the zodiac, a Pisces is also usually the most tolerant. This water sign’s sensitivity to other people and cultures makes a Pisces the perfect reader of the New Age genre. Never judgmental, this sign combines wisdom with compassion to properly consider each spiritual claim or account. A Pisces’s ability to think and read outside of his or her comfort zone makes this sign one of the rarest and most eclectic readers.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
