As Boo! Arizona rapidly approaches I wanted to give everyone a rundown of what you can expect from each DJ.

Boo! Arizona: The Run Down
Tony Cottrell // Relentless Beats

Boo! is going to be the heaviest show Arizona has seen since Bassrush Massive back in March. Taking place on October 14th, Boo! will be featuring Bonnie x Clyde, Bro Safari, KSHMR, Laidback Luke, Monxx, Valentino Kahn, Zomboy, and a guaranteed legendary set with 12th Planet b2b Crizzly. If you are on the fence or considering maybe sitting this one out, don't. I can promise you will regret it just as much as I regretted not going to Lost Lands. In case you aren't familiar with all the artists on the lineup here is my rundown of what you can expect!

12th Planet

12th Planet is an absolute bass god who has dominated the dubstep and bass scene since 2006 and has been one of my personal favorites since I started listening to dubstep back in 2013. 12th Planet has continually been one of the main driving forces of new sounds and subgenres in dubstep as well as being one of the founders of the heavily influential SMOG records. From the Transitions EP with Protohype to his most recent, Let Us Prey EP, 12th Planet has proved that he is still a relevant figure in bass music and will continue to be for a long time to come. I was able to catch 20 minutes of his set at Lost Lands Music Festival and trust me when I say you will not want to miss him at Boo!

Bonnie X Clyde

Bonnie X Clyde is a duo like none other in the industry mixing gorgeous vocals and bass beats to create a sound that is heavy, emotional, and energetic. Bonnie X Clyde has been on a hot streak the past year with the recent release of their Wanted EP and Wanted Remix EP which features remixes from Part Native, Pixel Terror, SWAGE and Jamestown Thieves. I first saw Bonnie X Clyde at Life is Beautiful 2016 and in the recent two times, I have seen them they never cease to bring that Miami energy and positive vibes.

Bro Safari

If you haven’t heard Bro Safari’s MOOMBAH Season Mixes with ETC! ETC! go check out vol. 1 here and vol. 2 of their hip moving, rhythmic bass beats. Bro Safari is a mastermind when it comes to 100 bpm bangers that switch between intricate vocals, hard-hitting drops, and an energy that carries throughout every song. Every time I have seen Bro Safari it has been an insane hype experience filled with jumping, headbanging and a whole lot of dancing. Bro Safari just released the Collision EP a few months ago and his song with Dillon Francis, XL has become a festival banger that you can almost guarantee to hear.

Crizzly

Crizzly is the king of crunkstep which is a flawlessly hard combination of dubstep, trap and hip-hop. Crizzly is known for hitting hard with the 808’s and anytime he is on the decks it is safe to say a turn up is bound to occur. He just released Ima Go Hard a couple months ago and Crunkstep Vol.4 a few weeks ago. I am super excited to see how Crizzly’s dirty trap influenced 808 beats will flow with the godfather of dubstep, 12th Planet.

KSHMR

KSHMR is an intricate produce who first came to my musical collection last year when he released The Lion Across the Field EP. KSHMR’s style has heavy influences from his Indian culture, similar to Jai Wolf, both of which can create beautiful sounds that when added together become a symphony of authentic and enticing songs. KSHMR also just released his Materials EP and a new song with Hardwell titled Power. KSHMR knows how to use deep beats and higher pitched tones creating a combination that is bound to make you dance.

Laidback Luke

When it comes to techno and house vibes no one’s track record runs quite as deep and consistent as Laidback Luke. The man has been a legend when it comes to producing since his big rise in the late 90’s early 2000’s. Laidback Luke has that distinct Dutch House style that has been iconic for years and will continue to lay at the heart of Electronic Dance music for years to come. Laidback Luke has spotted some of the best talents in the scene right now and continues to support up and upcoming artists with his Ones to Watch Record Label.

Monxx

Riddim, Wonk and Hot Cheetos are all you really need to know when it comes to this fast-rising bass star. Monxx has quickly cemented himself as a riddim beast alongside Squnto, Ganja White Knight, and Boogie T; with appearances on Never Say Die Compilations, Disciples Round Table Records and just recently tore apart Lost Lands. He has created a very distinct “wonky” sound that adds a whole new level to the riddim style. If you have not checked out the Wonky Song I highly suggest you go check it out here. Trust me, it’s wonky as hell.

Valentino Khan

Deep. Down. Low.

I am sure we are all familiar with Valentino Khan’s iconic club bounce hit as it dominated the scene for the past two years being played at almost any party, club or festival. Valentino Khan’s style is jam-packed with energy that makes it impossible not to bounce around and be excited. His production style carries an upbeat bouncy vibe similar to what you expect from Dillon Francis. Valentino Khan has been a master of remixes with my personal favorite being his Propaganda remix which adds a huge build up to the already heavy drop. He is a versatile musician working with almost every style of EDM and even expanding his style to work on songs with popular hip-hop and pop stars. If you aren’t off your feet at Valentino Khan’s set then you’re doing something wrong.

Zomboy

Zomboy is newer to the scene but he came crashing in after his Neon Graves EP blew the minds of bass heads everywhere. Like a B*tch was and still is one of the most played, heaviest and hyped drops at festivals, usually with a moshpit or headbanging following closely after. He has received recognition from the biggest names in EDM right now including Skrillex, DJ Snake, and the whole Never Say Die team not only for his heavy and wild sets but also for his energy on stage during his sets. Zomboy’s energy on stage transfers into the crowd, and while he sold out and destroyed the U.S during his sold-out tour he has kept the momentum with his recently released Rott n’ Roll EP and tour. Even Pasquale Rotella admits that Zomboy is one of those high energy sets you should never miss.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
