Body Shaming: Not Just Directed Towards Women

Body Shaming: Not Just Directed Towards Women

Recently, there has been an article on Yahoo addressing how Jay Cutler, quarterback for the Chicago Bears, was "body-shamed" on an Instagram picture that his wife posted a few days ago. Many comments were making fun of his weight, including people asking how he can still play football while being so chubby. While females are the ones that are mainly body-shamed in the media, male celebrities can receive the same treatment, it just gets unnoticed.

Vin Diesel

Back in 2015, Diesel was shamed for his flabby "dad-bod" stomach.

The 48 year old actor hit back with an Instagram picture of his rock hard abs. Diesel doesn't approve of the body-shaming haters, but he also isn't afraid to admit that even he has some off days.

Grant Gustin

"The Flash" actor Grant Gustin responded back to haters in 2015 about his weight. Many people thinks he is too skinny to be a superhero, but Gustin responded back on Twitter by saying this "Hey. Just a PSA. People telling me to 'put on 10 lbs'. F*ck off. That's the same as telling someone to lose 10. Lemme do me. You do you". He then followed up that tweet by saying "I don't need anyone to defend me either. I'm ok, everyone. Just putting that out there. ALSO..I do try". But let's be realistic, he plays Barry Allen, the fastest man alive. And if you want to look at his body-shape from an anatomical and athletic point of view, the bigger muscles you have, the slower you are at running. So in reality, an actor with the same body shape as Grant Gustin is the perfect fit for his character. And let's be honest, he's also super cute.

Chris Pratt

During an interview with Vanity Fair, Pratt admitted that he has been turned down in the past for being "too fat". The actor got turned down when he auditioned for the movie "Moneyball" back in 2011. At the time, Pratt couldn't afford a trainer, so he ran a lot, cut down the alcohol, and crash-dieted. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star lost 80 pounds for his role in the hit film. Pratt says that he has more energy and sleeps better now that he isn't as heavy as he used to be.

Leonardo DiCaprio

Everyone loves this heartthrob, but even Leo can't escape body-shamers. Back in 2014 DiCaprio was fat-shamed while on a beach vacation in Bora Bora.

Joe Pardavilla took to Twitter with this photo with the caption " has put on a few pounds. He's worth $200 Million and bangs supermodels. I don't think he cares". While this particular tweet somewhat defends the movie star, many others went around the internet making comments such as "The Great Fatsby" and many others.

While I do believe that women are body-shamed the most when it come to the tabloids, I think it is important to remember that men can be body-shamed as well, even if its not on the cover of every tabloid website out there.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
