15 Things Only BLOOM Students Would Ever Know

You can definitely relate if you go to Bloomsburg!

15 Things Only BLOOM Students Would Ever Know
Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania

Every college has its own unique features that its students learn about in their time there. Bloomsburg University, a relatively small university in the middle of a farm town in Pennsylvania, is very special to all who walk its campus. Here are things you learn while being a student at the best university in PA.

1. It's BLOOM, not Blooms.

For goodness sake, I hear upperclassmen shortening Bloomsburg to "Blooms." You don't call Pittsburgh "Pitts," so what makes you think that Bloomsburg would be "Blooms?" Ugh. If you can't say Bloom, do us all a favor and just say Bloomsburg!

2. You're either team Java City or Team Starbucks (Or Both).

Many students believe Java City is cheaper, but in reality, they're the same price depending on what you get. You can get a caramel or mocha coffee for the same price at both places. But there's nothing wrong with liking both! Starbucks is the perfect place to go if you're in the library or on lower campus by the dorms; Java City is perfect on the way to class!

3. If you had Dr. Beck for general psychology, no other professor compares to him.

If you haven't had the pleasure of being in his general psych class, I'm sorry. Dr. Beck is funny, sarcastic, and wears Crocs....all. The. Time. He even has a pair of rainbow Crocs, which are the perfect shoes for him, honestly.

4. EVERYONE uses the library during finals week.

All the group study rooms get taken up by 8 am on the Sunday before finals. Where were all of you all year? And when A SINGLE PERSON takes up a WHOLE STUDY ROOM, it just makes life worse for everybody.

5. Chip is the best Commons lady.

She is always so friendly to every student, makes jokes with them, and compliments students all the time! She'll easily strike up a 10 minute conversation with just about every student that walks in and out of Commons.

6. Speaking of Commons, it's the best place on campus to eat.

You get all the food you can eat for a single meal swipe, and Commons dessert is the best, especially the cookies! We all wish we could take Commons cookies home with us, but that would be stealing.

7. NEVER walk across the quad.

Need I say more?

8. Bless the POD in Centennial.

Before this year, the only POD we had was on upper campus, but Bloom decided to make our lives easier and put one in the academic quad for a quick bite between classes. And they take meal swipes, so we don't have to walk all the way down near the dorms for food! (Yes, we do have Roongo's, but they only take flex).

9. We have class MONDAY during Thanksgiving week....

Seriously, what the actual heck, Bloom? 1 day of classes?? What sense does that make?

10. But professors give extra credit for showing up Monday!

Sometimes up to 5 points....That's a deal I'd take, and something I think we ALL need...but if you wanna go home the Friday before Thanksgiving, nobody blames you.

11. Bingo is more competitive than any sport.

Yes, we're college students. Yes, we play bingo and get very serious about it. And yes, we're probably just elderly folks in disguise. But a single person can win up to $90 CASH! Tell me you wouldn't get competitive for that.

12. Free food. Everywhere. All the time.

No matter what day of the week, there's bound to be free food somewhere. And who doesn't love free food?! We're college students, we're broke, FREE FOOD IS A GIFT FROM THE HEAVENS!

13. Flex goes faster than you think.

Watch your Starbucks/Java City intake, because it will take all your flex by the middle of the semester and that is a fact. You might wanna watch how many times you go over a meal swipe for food, too. It's sneaky.

14. Pet therapy days!

Dogs come to campus at least twice a semester. All the dogs are so cute, and who doesn't love cute stress relievers?

15. Bloom is your second home.

I do not know a single Bloom student who can't wait to get back when they go home for a weekend or break. Bloomsburg will always hold a special place in our hearts, and you'll never want to leave.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
