It's Time To End The "Blonde Joke"
Buzzfeed

Growing up short with blonde hair and blue eyes has definitely had its pros. But there's also a down side to being short... the short jokes. Now you see, I can't really control my height, my growth plates decided to fuse together at a certain point, and here I am.

As I mentioned, I was born a natural blonde, and my hair has always been blonde for the most part. Growing up, people always associated me with my long, blonde hair. There was a short three month period that I was a brunette, and I decided to come back to my roots, and become blonde again... more on that later.

However, there is no easy way to really sugar coat what I am about to say. I am sick and tired of the "Blonde Jokes". Some of them are absolutely ridiculous. My hair color has absolutely no baring on my intelligence or common sense.

Now, some of these are said in fun between friends, but some of these "blonde jokes" are just down right disrespectful. I can figure out basic life skills and I am a competent human being perfectly capable of handling my own. It has taken me years to figure out how to not take these pointless, and often ignorant jokes to heart. But I am writing this on behalf of those who have not reached the point I have. They have yet to truly relaize those jokes do not determine their worth.

I will always be associated with my blonde hair, and I am so proud of that. But people often forget to realize that I am not your "stereotypical" blonde that the famous blonde jokes are based of off. And neither is any other blonde person out there. I graduated at the top of my class, and I am a pre-nursing major. I am doing well in school, and I am one of the most analytical people you will ever meet.

You see its all fine and dandy when people realize you actually understand what you are doing, and I am usually one of the first people my peers contact to help them with English papers or to prepare for a physiology lab. However, if I make one little comment that is silly: prepare yourself for the blonde jokes.. because they will be coming.

We live in a society where skinny shaming, fat shaming, gay shaming, ect are criticized. We "attack" these people for their put downs on others, but why don't we stop blonde shaming? That is an acutal thing.

I have seen girls change their hair color because they were so sick and tired of these ridiculous jokes, and unfortunately, they still catch these blonde jokes left and right.

We are worth more than the jokes that you get a laugh out of. We are of equal intelligence. We all have feelings, and we are not as ditsy and dumb as we are portrayed. We actually possess common sense. And get this: we have feelings too, and those jokes hurt sometimes.

So, I am here to ask you this: please stop the blonde jokes okay? Because they actually do not really make me look bad. You see, the only person that really looks ignorant in the long run, is the person telling them.

As for me and my blonde hair, I will be just fine. I am blonde and I am proud. Regardless of how many jokes are told about me along the way, I'll be the one that is successful at the end of the day.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
