The studio that brought more than 12 million subscribers to the magical world of warcraft is back at it again with their brand new title Overwatch. Set to release May 23rd, Overwatch is projected to be one of the studio's top games of all time. For almost 26 years Blizzard has provided numerous hit games to the world of gaming. With titles like World of Warcraft, Starcraft, a Hearth Stone it seems Blizzard just can't make a mistake. However, after the drop of their new soon to be hit game what is next for the entertainment empire Blizzard?
Overwatch, Blizzard's new Team Fortress type FPS, is scheduled to release this week and with the numbers that Blizzard saw in the open beta it is likely for the game to be a huge success. If you were one of the lucky individuals who got to experience the beta, you know that the anticipation for this game is well deserved. Overwatch received 9.7 million players during their open beta for the new title which is the highest amount of players they have ever received in an open beta. These players were in a total of 190 countries and played the game for a total of 4.9 billion minutes which was nearly 38 million online matches. These numbers are directly correlated to the game's overall popularity around the world and shows that the hype for this game is palpable.
With the popularity of this entertainment studio it is tough to imagine them stopping while they have the rock rolling so well. With the release of their new feature length movie based off the World of Warcraft series it seems that blizzard is still at the top of the industry. With all of the success of Blizzard Entertainment it is still unknown what their next project will be. Blizzard has posted job openings with descriptions of working on their next big game as well as hinting that it will be set in the Diablo universe. This is all speculation at the moment but could we be seeing Diablo 4? Perhaps we could be seeing a new game with a fresh look in the franchise. Personally, I think that Blizzard should take a different approach to the Diablo franchise and give players a new game that is familiar in terms of the world but new in terms of mechanics. Perhaps even a RTS or a Dark Souls third person view in the world of Diablo.
No matter what route Blizzard takes, there is no doubt in my mind that they will produce a stunning game that is enjoyable like they always do. In the meantime, we have Overwatch and a movie coming out soon which is more than enough to tide us over until the reveal of Blizzard's next big project. What do you want from Blizzard?
